Point of no return

Can somebody tell me why this film was re-named again please?

reply

I’ve always know it as the Assassin. Imagine my confusion when I started to watch some of a movie on tv called ‘Point of No Return’ which appeared to be made in the 1990s and it had a young Bridget Fonda as a criminal being trained to be an assassin.

From IMDb

In Europe and Asia, the film was retitled "The Assassin", after it "underperformed" in the U.S. with its original title. Warner Brothers felt the new title would help sell the action element

Is sad that Europe and asia get the results of American test/actual audiences

I didn't know it had been. I saw it on the day it came out and have only ever known it as "Point of No Return".

Maybe he's referring to the different name used for this remake? I'm not sure.

But Point Of No Return with Bridget Fonda is a remake of the French film La Femme Nikita directed by Luc Besson. Although not nearly as good in my opinion, Point Of No Return is a remake I did actually enjoy. There were also two television series inspired by the concept: La Femme Nikita starring Peta Wilson and Nikita with Maggie Q, both pretty good. This property had some legs.

Way back in the day my dad and I would watch the series with Peta Wilson. I presume it probably does not hold up super well by today's standards--though maybe I'd be surprised!--but at the time we both found it to be above-average action television.
