Miranda's Attitude To Daniel

Is akin to how right-wing Republicans and right-wing Tories treat carers. They undervalue the work, commitment, dedication and love carers display in their work towards their charges, in this case, Daniel's kids, who he played and engaged with, whilst treating other careers (i.e. ones that don't involve emotional skills/working with children) as somehow 'superior'. Honestly, I wonder why people like Miranda have kids sometimes. If men were capable of getting pregnant on their own, Daniel would have been better off as a single parent, seeing as Miranda hardly gave a shit about her children.

Oh, that's not why Miranda was primed to throw Daniel out on his ass!

And he wasn't the family "carer", he wasn't a house-husband, he was a working actor who went from having a steady job to having a temporary spell of unemployment as the film opened, we don't know which of them spent more time with the children, or which one did the childcare gruntwork like making sure the kids bathed and did their homework. We just know that during the marriage, it wasn't Daniel cooking their dinner.

We see Daniel hosting the kids' birthday party, and Miranda coming home complaining about the mess and the noise, rather than showing any sort of appreciation or regard for her children, far less any desire to entertain them.

And then, she entirely deprives Daniel of his parental rights, whilst hiring a fucking stranger to look after them. 🤦‍♂️

Miranda DIDN'T GIVE A SHIT about the kids. She just wanted to get back at Daniel. Fuck her! 😠

Thank goodness the perenially likeable Sally Field played her, because I'd hate to think how she'd come across if, say, Meryl Streep, Sigourney Weaver or even Goldie Hawn had played her (I'm thinking about who Field's contemporaries are).

There wasn't much to undervalue when it came to Daniel. Daniel was an insult to true care givers, which is what ticks off "right-wing Republicans" and left-wing Democrats for that matter (I've been both). You want to be a care giver? Fine, just do your job right.

Daniel was not only a poor care care giver, he was a drag on the household. At best he was a mediocre baby sitter who taught the kids nothing but being irresponsible. Farm animals inside their beautiful home?? Miranda was correct in kicking his lazy ass out and paying someone to do the job that Daniel should have been.

If Daniel had been half the woman (or man) that Euphegenia Doubtfire was, he'd have still been with Miranda. Sure, it's fun and games when you first start dating and even before the kids come, but with children comes responsibility, and Miranda grew up when responsibility demanded it. Unfortunately for Daniel, he didn't grow up until Miranda fell out of love with him.

Too bad he learned his lesson too late - but at least he did to his credit.

It's true, Daniel wasn't the kind of parent who makes sure the kids get their homework done, he was the kind of parent who'd tell the kids to forget about homework tonight, because he found a trampoline place across town! Which put Miranda on the unenviable position of bring the parent who had to say the trampolines needed to wait for a time when the homework was done, because if one parent is super fun then the other parent is forced to.be the family buzzkill, and why all the sane viewers empathize with her when she told Daniel it was over. She was sick of his shit, any responsible adult would be sick of his shit after 10+ years!

And that's leaving aside the question of who was paying more of the family's bills. She probably was.

Like I say, when you start prioritising stuff like bills, you (not *you* personally) begin to sound like a Republican/conservative. The world is rich enough to take care of all its children. It's just a sense of righteousness and entitlement that causes some people to excoriate welfare-recipients.

That said, I know my nephew loses his rag with me when I try to get him to do his homework, but a least I make an effort to do the 'fun' stuff with him too. A lot of parents neglect that, and, as a result, end up neglecting their kids and their kids' needs. Miranda didn't strike me as the type of person who ever played with her kids (in the wholesome sense of that term).

They shouldn't have to do homework- full stop.

Slacker.

It's been said that Robin Williams basically made the same movie over and over again. Almost every role has him playing a "find the fun/swim against the stream" character who has to constantly take on the establishment/authorities/killjoys. In this movie, Miranda is the establishment, while Daniel just wants to live in a fantasy world. There are slight variations, but you can superimpose this plot template on almost every Robin Williams movie. I'm sure he was handed hundreds of scripts to choose from during his lifetime, but screenwriters in the 1980s and 1990s made a lot of money by continuing to churn out stuff like this, knowing it would resonate with him.

What the hell do politics have to do with a movie? How weird & stupid!

While I would have wished that you left your rant against Republicans and Tories out of this, I agree with you about Miranda.
She's such a horrible human being, that I can hardly find the words for it.
