Was there music during the scene? Can't remember. I'm sure the music took us away from thinking about this. Just a funny scene in the end, not to be thought about too much.
Knowing kids though, and how I was, I'd be coming down to ask what's for dinner and see how it's going. Kids get curious and amused about people getting hurt so they would surely come to check.
Or in the least, smell the "burning rubber".....
