Do you think they ended up getting back together?
It seemed like it was up for open interpretation, but what do you think? I feel like at the end of the movie she really started to like him again.

sharehell no. there was to much history behind them to want to be with each other. i think it proved that they just couldn't live together anymore. but at the ending they started to realise how they could get on without fighting and make a life for their children without bitterness and anger

let's not go to camelot, it is a silly place
Actually, I agree with the OP. She did seem like she was starting to like him again. Like the kids, she missed Mrs. Doubtfire. She also admit to him in the end that Mrs. Doubtfire brought out the best in everyone, including him.
shareIt could potentially go either way, and I'm glad they made it ambiguous. At the very least, I'd think that they got to be friends and closer than they'd been in years.
After being disappointed in Daniel for so long, Miranda probably began to see him in a new light after being Mrs. Doubtfire brought out alot of good things in him, AND was a good role model who made her and the kids happy (which she even admitted to, and finally softened up by the end).
At its core, they were still very different people though, and their original problems could've still resurfaced later on (even if they'd both matured in resolving things). I could see Stu being the kind of guy who'd be polite enough to take a step back (even if he was in love with Miranda) so that the kids could be happy. We never hear from him again, so we don't know if they stayed together...but if they did, I could see them being a little more compatible. And Daniel could've had a Liberal or more artsy chick as a new girlfriend too.
No I think they were better off not getting back together, and next they don't want to give children of divorced parents false hope, that their parents will get back together. I believe they would be better off staying as friends even with of how much most of the time, expect for a few short scenes that Miranda was mad with Daniel. I mean do you really want to see them get back at each other, I mean they were like the couple from hell, you wonder even how did they last through 14 years of marriage, or what happened in their message that made Miranda get sick of Daniel's act?
shareThe whole point of Mrs. Doubtfire's response to the letter at the end of the movie was to illustrate that divorced parents are usually better off not being together. Of course they care about each other. I mean it's hard not too after being together all that time but they no longer worked as a couple. Besides, Miranda was with Stewart.
share^I agree with ALMOST everything you said, Doc. The movie's closing speech is poignant and very true, and that definitely would apply to Miranda & Daniel. But we actually never see Stu after the Bridges scenes, so it's not 100% concrete proof that they stayed together (although very possible).
shareTrue, we don't know if they stayed together but I am just making an educated guess because Miranda and the kids definitely liked Stu and I don't see Stu breaking things off because of what happened at the restaurant.
shareThe movie doesn't do anything to suggest that will happen, it does plenty to make a point of how decent a guy Stu is, but I guess you could say the fact that they are finally back on good terms, and she can see how he's grown, and how much he understands leaves it as a remote possibility...

It was probably left open for interpretation on purpose, but I think it sends a far more powerful message that the divorced parents remained on good terms for the sake of their kids. It gave a lot of children of divorce hope that everything would be alright, even if their parents remained separated.
Getting them back together would just provide a lot of false hope and unrealistic expectations for families everywhere. It was actually quite forward thinking of them to keep the parents separated and still have it be a happy ending.
I think it's pretty obvious they didn't get back together. There's the scene where Miranda goes to the studio to visit Daniel, and even then, after everything that's gone on, the two of them are still fighting. Even the symbolism in the last scene, where he doesn't actually come into the house.
Honestly, none of the movie was about Daniel getting Miranda back. It was about being with his kids. Now, when he was Mrs. Doubtfire, he certainly asked Miranda about his behavior as a husband, but I think that was more just so he could learn about where he needed to grow up and mature in order to be in his children's lives.
I agree I can't imagine one reason why they would want to get back together I say it is pretty obvious that they didn't get back together and think about it they argued more times in the movie then they didn't argue.
shareLeaving the story open-ended was smart, since Daniel and Miranda getting back together might give false hope to children of divorcees. I definitely think the film implies that the family did reconvene, though.
Throughout the movie (particularly in Daniel's apartment), Miranda realises that her husband has gotten his act together and has ironed out the personality traits she disliked in him. The Stu character is dropped after the big reveal, and Miranda begins to remember what a good person and father Daniel is (largely due to his efforts as Doubtfire), eventually giving up her full custody. Doubtfire notes on her show that "sometimes they [couples] do" get back together – rendering this a possibility for the leads – at which point the film ends with Miranda watching Daniel/Doubfire on TV with a look of great affection.
Earlier in the movie when Miranda speaks to Doubtfire about how life was with Daniel, she still seems to have a lot of fondness for him, even taking some responsibility for the collapse of their marriage ("I was serious enough for everybody"). She also appears to be jealous when she hears that Daniel is living with another woman. The pair still love each other, and the kids want their family unit back, so I think Miranda did the right thing.
Yep and it just like how Mrs Doubtifre gives in her speech on whether parents get back together or don't, does anybody know of any parents that did get a divorce and eventually did get back together again?
shareNo way. I simply think Daniel and Miranda decided it's better to be cordial to each other, and let the kids still be part of both parents' lives. There still was too much animosity hidden deep down for the two of them to get back together, and as the saying goes, people don't change. At the end, Miranda not allowing Daniel into the house is a good example of this.
