Had this movie opened in July or August would it have been a hit?
Opening up against Jurassic Park was quite the feat, but would this movie have been considered a 'hit' had Columbia Pictures decided to open this movie a month later?

shareI doubt it'd make much difference. People judged this film based on his earlier output and found it disappointing.
Arnie has also claimed that by the time it came out (1993) the sort of action movie characters he portrayed were passé. And even though this film does poke fun at such characters, it also celebrates them. If it had been a more straightforward parody (like, as I mentioned in another thread, Austin Powers spoofed James Bond) it'd probably have done better.
The main problem is Loaded Weapon 1 already came out a few months earlier and stole all the thunder.
I think this opening against Park is interesting. Old vs New. It could have been a successful strategy. If it was a real Arnold movie. But it wasnt. It was goofy and strange and a little too high concept for action fans.
I remember the fervor of Jurassic Park mania like yesterday. It was Star Wars level insanity. Even more so than Avatar was. Coulda been a bust though. Might have been the case that people thought dinosaurs running around in modern times was as schlock as it gets. People behind Last Action rolled the dice and lost.
But I think the audience for LAH was what it was. you were a die hard Arnie fan or you wernt. Didnt matter when they put it out. Would they have picked up a few more million from lack of competition on date night? Probably but not much.
