The Witches' Costumes

One thing that really makes the Sanderson Sisters stand out among the various famous movie witches over the years, is the fact that they don't dress like traditional witches. We're talking, black dress, black pointy hat, black pointy shoes, and possibly striped stockings (though the striped stockings trend kinda went out with the Wicked Witch of the East).

In fact, none of them wear black at all (unless you count Mary's black hair). Their outfits are very colorful and evoke a fantasy element, so different than the boring, dulled colors the puritans living in their area were wearing at the time. Small wonder some people like to dress as these characters during Halloween ;)

I mean, first you have Sarah, the slutty blond sister. She's dressed in reds, purples, and pinkish tans, with a purple cloak.

Then you have Mary, dressed in reds, oranges, a bit of purple, and plaid, with a red cloak. Her hairstyle is interesting, because it evokes the black witch hat, but it's her own hair, rather than a hat doing it for her.

Finally you have Winifred, with the green robe and purple gown, dark green cloak, and the crazy pseudo-Elizabethan hairdo.
