Were you rooting for the witches?

Virgin boy was rather lame and had such cringe worthy lines that I rather wished he'd be the first to go. Why couldn't Winnifred have let go that Virgin boy's sister called her ugly and grabbed one of the many thousands of near by children to gain eternal life? Was she really in that much of a hurry to turn into a stone statue?

Lol I love the actresses playing the Sanderson sisters but I couldn't root for them even if I wanted to because Bette Midler was so good at making you hate her.

Bette Midler has this weird vibe in that we're supposed to hate her because she wants to kidnap and suck the souls out of children, but nevertheless, it's still hard to 100% dislike her villain character because she's so damn entertaining. It's kind of hard to take her absolutely seriously with those buck teeth and what not. She almost seems like a Batman villain like The Joker, where she's giving a flamboyantly demented performance.

CRINGE WORTHY LINES?...I AM NOT ROOTING FOR YOU.

reply

Heck yeah! They were fun, the good-guy kids were drips.

reply

No! They were child killers and even ate them!!!

reply

Child killers are cool, when they do magic!

reply

I can't excuse their awful behavior because they can do magic! That song and dance routine on the other hand..

Yes, I rooted for the itches, but it wasn't because the virgin boy was lame. It was because I thought the witches were cool. I thought the protagonist, dude was intelligent and worthy. It was the girl played by Vinessa Shaw who was an idiot and deserved to die. She was hapless and pathetic, though she was beautiful.

Frankly this is how I feel about the witches in this movie.

I see the witches as comic relief. I mean, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are practically the female Three Stooges in this movie. Hocus Pocus is a very campy horror movie and the Sanderson sisters and the actresses' hammy, over-the-top performances completely revel in that concept. I think that Bette Midler herself, often said that Hocus Pocus is her favorite movie of all of those that she's made.
