i also love hard target more.its slick, brutal and it never stops.van damme never looked so cool, music was amazing, vosloo was a great bad guy and locations were amazing.
also this was john woo at his purest,he was brand new here.everything else that he did later on in broken arrow, face off and m:i-2 was more or less the same depending on a budget.
but i love all of his movies...hes the woo...

Despite the fact they are both John Woo action films, they are different sub-types of the action genre. Rather than saying it's like comparing apples and oranges, it's more like comparing granny smith apples to red delicious apples. Similar, but not the same thing.

Face Off makes more of an attempt to give the characters emotional depth as well as action. Hard Target is stylish action with some characterization. Given a choice, I do enjoy Hard Target more. By far the most enjoyable Van Damme film, and Henriksen and Vosloo make for great bad guys. And of course it's hard (though not impossible) to go wrong with John Woo doing action.

Apples and oranges; Hard Target is a better mindless action movie, but I still love watching Cage and Travolta playing each other, even if the action in Face/Off isn't as good and it goes on forever.

Can we all agree that they're both much better than Broken Arrow?

I have always preferred hard target over face off, its just overall the more fun movie to watch, face off seems as if it is trying too hard to be a drama at the same time as an action blockbuster directed by a man who likes to make heavy use of people flying around spinning in the air holding and firing weapons out of both hands and the chow yun fat. also Arnold volojulu plays one cold badass motherf09ker in this, him and Hendrickson paired off nicely. the action scenes were fun to watch, the plot was cool and didn't try to be something it wasn't. face off is still a cool movie, but Nicolas cage needs to stop spending all his money on castles.

John Woo is not Sergio Leone, he's a Woo

I prefer Face/Off because I liked Travolta and Cage in this and I don't care much for them usually. I also enjoyed the action sequences and the dialogue/situations more.
Hard Target felt a bit bland, but the final shootout was fun to watch. That's really the only thing that stood out for me.

way better than face off for sure. the action sequences in this are creatively executed and van damme is a monster.

Much better. I think Face/Off is way too long and have too few action scenes. I also wasn't so impressed by the action scenes.
