Really! That's the best Detective Kelly can do? In case anyone forgot the part where it's established Kimble is back in Chicago, then Det. Kelly has a meeting with his officers, and offers to donate a bottle of 12 year old Scotch to the officer who ends up arresting Kimble. How about at least a new car or something? Even a very good bottle of scotch is only about $200 to $300 a bottle. Well whoop-dee-do! Yea I bet they will be working extra hard 24/7 for Detective Kelly's bottle of scotch. This scene must have been written in just to establish Det. Kelly is an even bigger prick than we already thought. Knowing the asshole he is, it's probably not even a high end scotch. It's probably just a cheap bottle he's held onto for the last 12 years

Lol you expect a detective to “at least” buy a new car by himself just to give away? That’s kind of crazy. It’s not like detectives are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and can afford to buy new cars for other officers for catching high profile fugitives. I think winning the bottle of scotch is more about just being the cop who won the prize offer and made the arrest than the monetary value of the prize. It’s their job anyway, it’s not like their being asked to go on a suicide mission to do something that’s not in their job description.

Boozes don't "age" after they've been bottled. Even so, you're mostly right about this. Just looking online it seems like the price range for a 12 year old bottle is about 50 dollars give or take 20 dollars. There was one listed for 250 and a couple for 150. Not a big deal, I certainly wouldn't risk taking a bullet for it.

I'll be honest. I have never had Scotch but I doubt it tastes different than Tequilla, Whiskey, or Rum which all taste like crap.

I rarely drink. However Scotch is actually the only hard liquor I actually like the taste of.

Aahahah, that was a great comment!
I think the scene establishes how out of touch with reality writers in hollywood are, because they think, like you mentioned, that a poor bastard like an average detective will actually do the extra work for such a coveted prize.
And also, another poor bastard like Kelly would certainly not be able to create a bigger lure for them on his poor man's salary...they were probably thinking of writing "I donate 3 coupons for a discount on corn flakes at walmart" but that didn't sound as manly as the bottle.

Ultimately it was Deputy Gerard who brought Kimble in, and not Chicago PD. Kelly didn't seem to like Gerard very much since he had no power or authority over him. I know Kelly didn't make the deal with Gerard to give him scotch, but what were the chances of him approaching Gerard with the scotch and congratulating him. Basically saying (Good job! This is the deal I made with my officers. Enjoy!) Probably slim to none. Kelly most likely went home that night, drank the whole bottle, and said fuck that Gerard asshole!

Yeah. The prize of scotch does end up being rather pointless. Frankly I never had Scotch but I don't like Rum or Whiskey so I doubt I'd like Scotch. Then again I am on several medications some of which I take multiple times a day and therefore can't drink any alcoholic beverages at all without severe effects.
