Saw this movie when I was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade...about the time the movie just started showing on HBO. Stayed the night at my best friend's house and his mom watched it with us. Scared the living hell out of me and made my parents come pick me up in the middle of the night.

I've watched it many times since then but it's understandably not as scary as when I saw it as a child.

This movie is the reason why I'm deathly afraid of aliens as a 32 year old man.

The scenes in the movie depicting alien abductions, particularly the surgical scenes, are portrayed with a disturbing realism that could understandably traumatize children. Regarding the scenario you've described, I'm unsure of its prevalence, but I do know of someone who was deeply affected by a horror movie involving clown (or perhaps an episode of a TV show). This exposure from years ago still provokes fear of clowns for her to this day. Thankfully, for the person who started the post, the presence of aliens in society is considerably less common than that of clowns.
