This Movie Ruined My Life

Saw this movie when I was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade...about the time the movie just started showing on HBO. Stayed the night at my best friend's house and his mom watched it with us. Scared the living hell out of me and made my parents come pick me up in the middle of the night.

I've watched it many times since then but it's understandably not as scary as when I saw it as a child.

This movie is the reason why I'm deathly afraid of aliens as a 32 year old man.

I saw it as a child and loved every minute of it. I think it's one of the best UFO movies ever made.

But in the back of my mind I do fear things that I can't understand. I wouldn't travel to an isolated location all alone at night. I don't believe in aliens from other planets visiting the Earth but I do believe there might be things on this planet that want us to think that's what they are.

You don't believe in aliens visiting earth? Lol you need to do some research then buddy. Check out secure team on YouTube.

Demons and dimensions?

SC10 are well known hoaxers. They don't care what rubbish they post, as long as it brings in the advertising money.

reply

Agreed.
Also, it drives me insane when people say "just do your own research". There's a reason actual scientists don't conduct their research using YouTube and public libraries. It's mostly BS. They also don't care about opinions or he-said-she-said.

They focus on concrete fact, no matter where it takes them.

Sadly, there is absolutely zero concrete fact for alien life in the known universe (so far, anyway). Nevermind them visiting Earth and conducting experiments...

I'm 35 and saw this in the theater with my mom. It scared the crap out of me so badly that even today when I go to my family's ranch (where it's freaking dark and desolate), I always think in the back of my mind, "what if I get abducted when I'm driving around at night?!"

Scarred childhood, scarred adulthood.

reply

its not aliens your afraid of.

reply

This movie is not scary. And it's based on a total fabrication.

reply

the hell it isn't scary.... when you're an unsuspecting 13 year old seeing it in the theater. that sequence scared the holy crap out of me. I didn't sleep for a year after i saw it.

So were The Shining and The Exorcist. Still scary.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

I watched the movie for the 2nd time today. The first time I saw it was about 4 years ago. I wasn't that scared until I pictured myself in the situation of being abducted by aliens. I got chills imagining that. I don't know if the story is true or a "fabrication" like people say on this thread but it's still a very good movie nonetheless.

Haha I walked out of during the spaceship scene when he was on the table. The movie made me deathly afraid of anything alien related. My older brothers loved pulling pranks on me. One time a good year blimp was out and my brother said look a UFO and I ran and hid under my bed. Also was watching the show sightings and that added to my fear lol. I'm 34 now don't believe in aliens so I sleep better haha. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I had the same experience, although I can't remember exactly if it was this movie or else.

reply

Are you still scared at 38?

reply

I was in my 20's when I saw this and it freaked me out. never watched again until 20 years later.

Have you heard Travis story about what happened? The film exaggerated what he claimed to have happened when aboard the craft. It's a much more interesting version that what the film depicted and obviously not so sensationalistic.

Having said that. Do I believe it really happened? Probably not.
