One of the Best Films of the 90's

This movie is possibly one of the most overlooked movies in recent history. Award voters and critics gave all the accolades to Rosie Perez, who, although she did an excellent job, was not the main reason I liked this movie so much. the combination of the the pseudo reality type scenes to the scenes of family drama to the terrifyingly realistic plane crash sequence, this movie really opened my eyes.

This movie was truly one of the most gut-wrenching experiences I've ever had as a filmgoer. As the final credits rolled on this film, my stomach was tied up in knots and I was in tears. I cannot recall another film affecting me the way this one did in a long, long time. This searing, human, intensely personal drama goes to a lot of dark places within the soul that are hard to aritculate but easy to relate to. Yes, Rosie Perez did get all the attention and she was wonderful, but so was Jeff Bridges...maybe the best performance of his career and was even impressed by Isabella Rossellini, an actress who before this had failed to do so. For the discriminating filmgoer, this is a film to be cherished and remembered. Devastating.

What you said, ijonesiii. Never been impacted quite like this before - except perhaps by Mr Weir's 'PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK' the first time I saw it, which also left me completely wonder-bound and speechless. For 'FEARLESS', as my brother says, '...there ain't a flaw on it.' Mr Weir excells, as no one else in the film industry (and you may include Mr Hitchcock), at 'confoundment.' He so often leaves us questioning our logic, our values, our traditions...but not our fears, gripping and stunning, cleaved to the bone. Well-cast, supremely scored, and just-out-of-reach from your imagination. You can't touch this stuff, even with a dream.
