Demolition Man 2 would've been a Meryl Streep-starring father-daughter story

Apparently, the original film had a huge subplot about Stallone’s time-displaced police officer finding his now-adult daughter in the future. At the time, it was an assumption that co-star Sandra Bullock was going to turn out to be the daughter, but the whole subplot was cut from the film because it was too maudlin. In fact, Stallone’s daughter was going to be older than him, and was played in the cut scenes by actress Elizabeth Ruscio.

This was just one of the details that Demolition Man co-writer Daniel Waters shared when he spoke on a May episode of The Projection Booth podcast, about the time that producer Joel Silver pitched him on the follow-up after the film had a great overseas box office. “I get a call from Joel,” Waters said. “‘What do you think of this? Meryl Streep is Stallone’s daughter for the sequel. What do you think?’ I’m like ‘Okay, you get Meryl on the set and I’ll come out.'” Wait, what?

It would raise more questions than answers. The fate of San Angeles after the first film due to political repercussions brought on by Stallone's form of justice would need a lot of world-building in order to flesh out a backdrop for the proposed story. It sounds too risky and ambitious of a project to undertake. However, I could see it being reconsidered again since foreign markets are playing an increasing role in American cinema's box office.

I think Jesse Ventura was to do a Demolition Man 2 before he ran for governor in taking Wesley Snipes's place to from a minor character to more important to the prequel or sequel. I was disappointed not to see a Sylvester Stallone vs. Jesse Ventura fight.

I guess she needed a new house or something at the time.
