No, certainly not radically different at all. I'd also say that out of all the visual adaptations I've seen, Bruce Timm's animated franchise probably captures the spirit of the comics the best. Even when changes are made, his series seem to really understand the iconic characters of the DC mythos and capture their intended tone. They have substance and they also have style. They incorporate aspects taken from the entire history of the comic books, yet also create their own ideas (some of which have even been integrated into the mainstream comics, such as Harley Quinn and the portrayal of Mr Freeze as a tragic villain). I fear Western animation may never replicate the sheer depth of the DCAU.
