what season did you give up on the conspiracy nonsense?
and just watched the stand alone episodes.
season 2 for me.

I probably lost interest sooner than you did. There was nowhere for the story to go -- did anyone really think that the aliens were going to be revealed/confirmed to all the skeptics on the show? Because after that, then what? Where to go? The conspiracy is the bait used to hook people and maintain viewership. There isn't meant to be a resolution.

Just realized, that thanks to TV stations, I've never watched it in order.
The more chronological series had a hard time in the 90's.
What's been interesting in retrospect to me is how various aspects of the overall conspiracy in the X-Files world so closely mirrored the suspicions about the possibilities in the covert real world at the time based on evidence that has been revealed over the years...and as a result...not necessarily nonsense at all.
When viewed with that perspective, I'd think any objective person would have to question that maybe disclosure has been a more long term operation than is even currently being considered.
Never gave up because I was a weekly watcher back then. I've been meaning to re-watch the entire series and just watching the "monster of the week" episodes doesn't sound like a bad idea.
shareBack when it aired. Season 4/5.
