oh i didn't know that. because the other person said only 14 out of 24. yeah i saw a picture of her mug shot when she was 17 on google images. i was like wow she got the crap beaten out of her and she looks alot different with brownish hair. i think she looks good with black hair from the Halloween episode they just showed on t.v.

reply

She got in legal trouble (again) and ABC just said "to hell with it" and canned the show. Otherwise it would have at least finished season 5.

I don't remember the law getting invoved in any of her shenanigans. In a tv guide story at the time they said the series ended because a network executive wandered onto the set and caught her cursing or in some way misbehaving in front of the live audience- something she had been warned about. When she saw the executive and realized she was in trouble, she threw a can of soda pop at him either hitting him or at least splashing it on his leg.The series was canceled and they never filmed another episode.Throwing things at your boss is not a good idea! Especially if they've caught you doing something wrong.

Also she was accused of flashing her TV son (Quinton) and his parents had his contract broken, explaining new and older new Son...Julie White (Nadine), tired of the goings on also left show early and Alan Autry (Rick-Grace's TV boyfriend) also left a season early for the same reason..Brett's unruly behavior and alleged return to substance abuse caused execs to throw up their hands and cancel.....It is too bad because she was an exceptional talent and no doubt still is..I just read in her bio that she was paid $ 100,000.00 an episode, which to me, is a heck of alot of money to have lost.....

I can remember this being a pretty decent and funny show that went downhill fast. Not helped by the antics of its star!

Its that man again!!

The show ended by having an episode where Stephanie from Newhart basically took the lead and Grace (now with short black hair and barely coherent) mumbled her way through a few scenes. That's not an exaggeration: it was such a messed up episode that it really looked like the show was going in a new direction where the Newhart actress was going to take over. But after that, the show ended completely and went into obscurity for a bit.

A shame, too, because before Butler went off the rails it really had some potential. Dave Thomas and Tom Poston (again, another Newhart star!) were great and the show really worked better than you would expect.

Nick, no offense, but I don't know what you were on, or doing when you watched the last episode, because you obviously weren't paying too much attention and didn't watch it clearly, because that is not went down.
Yes, Julia Duffy was in the show, and had moved in with Grace, but it was just temporary, and it was NOT planned for her to be the new lead of the show.

reply

Well, to be fair, for the rest of the show's run she was kinda the lead. ;)

reply

Well, no, lol, there was no "rest of the show", because she was only in two episodes, and the only one where she actually moved in with Grace and her family. That was the last episode of the series, because it was cancelled after that aired.

I just read on another thread that there was another episode taped which didn't even have Brett in it, but the poster stated the reason was to hit the magic #500 of episodes, so now I'm wondering if he's confusing that with a movie where Sinbad plays a genie.

The final episode has to be seen to be believed. Brett Butler is literally incoherent (mumbling her lines) in the first scene and doesn't seem to know where she is, and she's wearing a strange enormous coat. It's like she didn't want to get into wardrobe and they just threw this thing over her in desperation. Brett also her hair slicked back in ten pounds of oil, having problems standing up, and is clearly high as a kite. Poor Julia Duffy was brought in to play a wacky friend who becomes Grace's roommate. The whole thing is bizarre with everyone acting while ignoring the doped up elephant in the room who just happens to be the star of the show. And then they add a blooper reel at the end, to remind you that there were even worse screw ups that happened.

Any links to this episode. The clips of last episodes on youtube don’t show anything like what you describe.
