Am I the only person who felt sorry for Jimmy Beck? *spoilers*

I know he wasn't the nicest of characters, but I did feel for him when his showing a bit of compassion to Albie resulted in the death of the boss he loved. No wonder he started to really lose it after that. And when, later in the series, he visited Bilborough's wife and found she was living with his brother... I could almost feel myself how devastated and betrayed Beck must have felt. What a great actor Lorcan Cranitch is, that he can play a character who comes across as unpleasant yet deeply vulnerable.

Of course they've brought forth juniper berries, they're juniper bushes!

NO I did not feel sorry for stupid Jimmy Beck. I almost did after Bilborough's murder but he's such a prat that I got over it.

The acting IS brilliant, but I don't see the character as complex. He's a stereotype, IMHO. I'm still on Season 2, though...maybe he'll change my mind in an upcoming episode.

OK, just finished Brotherly Love, and I feel just a teeny tiny bit sorry for Jimmy Beck the rapist...not much...but I do concede that he's a much more complex character than we had been shown in the early episodes.

And I don't really agree that he had repressed erotic feelings for Bilborough. He hero-worshipped him, didn't he? Who wouldn't hero-worship Chris Eccleston--sorry, Bilborough wearing Chris Eccleston's body??

Beck is not exactly a tragic hero, though, is he. He showed more decency by acknowledging the rape to Panhandle and apologizing sincerely than he ever had before. And there's a certain satisfaction to his taking the murderer with him. I'd call it an act of atonement.

This is the best crime drama I've seen since Homocide: Life on the Street.
