Lunch Question

Watching Series 2 Episode 4 "Why" and I was wondering. Jean and Lionel go to the park for lunch. They each have a sandwich. Would that be a typical whole lunch there? I just mean that when I have a sandwich I have to have something with it. Carrot sticks, chips (crisps there, I think), side salad of some kind. I don't think I'd be full with just a sandwich. Is that just me or are lunches smaller in England? Thanks or Cheers! :)

The sandwich is merely a prop to denote the characters are eating lunch. It also seems that the ATGB characters often only subsist on toast for breakfast, which may also be a way of saving time and budget on the show.

Either that, or Jean and the Type for You crowd are just too busy and on the go to sit down for a full breakfast and lunch.

If I am eating a sandwich, I would also eat crisps (chips). This is a fairly common combination. Also, sometimes it's paired with pieces of fruit. An apple, or some such. Depends on the person's appetite, I suppose.

Just a thing for TV, I think. Most people on TV, if they're eating a meal they spend very little time actually eating the meal. It's just a situation set so the characters can talk socially. If they've both got a sandwich, there's no real need to add anything else. The audience understands the situation, adding a bag of crisps would add nothing to the scene.

I was a bit bothered that they had nothing to drink with their sandwiches, not even water.
