When I was 15/16, around the period of early 00s, I was OBSESSED with this movie!

Yes folks, that's right, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" (1992), around that time period, has REALLY made an impression on me. Yes, I WAS familiar with the series and even at the time, with director David Lynch himself, of whom I am no doubt mostly a huge fan of (and "Blue Velvet" (1986) by the way is one of my top 5 favorite films EVER), and I have already around that time seen or peeked the likes of Blue Velvet, Lost Highway (1997), "Wild at Heart" (1990) and The Elephant Man (1980) but this is a movie that I was really hooked on.

I found it undeniably touching, definitely well made and acted, disturbing, at times strangely and frighteningly alluring and in general, after having seen it around 2001 on FilmFour channel, I literally couldn't stop thinking about it for 2 years or so. Anyone else felt similar?

And yes I still consider it a great movie and 9/10 I will give it, its one of Lynch's top 8 best films for sure. And I have to say, they rarely make films like THIS anymore.

Plus, I was a bit too young to purchase the DVD or video copy and I only started to get hang of the internet, but I went from school to one record store and BOUGHT its soundtrack, and I was listening to it a lot especially the brilliant Julee Cruise song featured in the film "Questions in the World of Blue", and it is through this movie albeit not until late 2002 or so, I discovered Julee Cruise. Oh yes.

And I felt indeed very sorry for what happens to Laura Palmer, both before but also during the surreal and disturbing murder. And what's also interesting is that despite the film's supernatural and surreal tone throughout, I could very much relate to and feel its tragic aspects on a reality level.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is my favorite Lynch film and TP Season 3 is my favorite along with it too. Lost Highway is my second favorite Lynch film and Inland Empire is third place. Blue Velvet was great when I first saw it, but now it's just bleh for me. Mulholland Drive feels like a shallow copy of Lost Highway.

I love Fire Walk with Me. Sheryl Lee/Laura makes me feel a lot of different emotions at the same time. It's not just that they don't make films like this one anymore - Fire Walk with Me is one of a kind. Is there any kind like it? That's how special it is to me. This movie is from heaven and hell at the same time, winking at us. To attach myself more to this film, I bought a screenplay copy from an Etsy shop. Just to have more of its aura in my life.

Fire Walk with Me is a real and honest film. Other movies are just fake in comparison.

Even Mark Kermode, our famous UK film critic and also champion of FilmFour channel all those years back too, considers this a great and hugely underrated film and he's a major fan of it.

I don't have any stats to throw your way, but from things I've read the past few years (as in a quote here or a comment there) I get the feeling a LOT of critics have changed their tune and think of this film as underrated.

In my book it's a classic.

Its rare a movie and tv series can blend together so well. The movie and show went along great.

Fun times

" . . . its one of Lynch's top 8 best films for sure."

Not counting his short films. These are Lynch's films (in order of release):

Eraserhead
The Elephant Man
Dune
Blue Velvet
Wild at Heart
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
Lost Highway
The Straight Story
Mulholland Drive
Inland Empire

To say that FWWM is one of his top 8 films sounds funny to me since he's made a total of 10 films. A "Top 5" wouldn't be so odd, but top 8?

It almost implies that you rank the film #8 since it's such an odd cut off point. Nothing wrong with that of course, it's your own personal taste and ranking. Just found it curious.

Great list but I'm surprised you put "Dune" so high. It's sci-fi but oddly it lacks the surrealism of Lynch's other films.

reply

No, I was listing the films in the order of release.

My point to the original poster was that to say TP: FWWM was one of his "top 8 Lynch films" almost includes ALL the Lynch films ever made!
