never saw his face


Why is it that in this film we never really get a good look at the stepfather's face?

Well, for one thing, you get a good idea of what the king looks like, but you never see his full face. I think it was to show the audience that evil (or monsters, if you will) doesn't really have a face, they could be in anyone.

I agree it was probably to make him more monstrous, which is what we should see him as from the kid's POV.

You never SEE his face because Mike doesn't REMEMBER his face. He doesn't remember his face because he has blocked it out. Mike has psychologicaly repressed more than just the fact that his brother or himself was tortured and/or murdered by some supreme jerk aka 'the king'.
