Am I the only one who likes the sequel more than the first film?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think the first film was terrible. It was certainly watchable. That Zelda scene will always haunt me. But I really don't understand all the praise that the first film has received. I thought the sequel was far more superior and more entertaining. Whenever I hear the title 'Pet Semetary', the sequel is what always comes to mind. There were just so many memorable scenes. And plus I liked the soundtrack. Overall, I just thought the sequel was better. I know that may be a very unpopular opinion. But oh well...

But can anyone else relate?

It's been many years since I watched the original, but I watched this film just a few days ago after living my whole life not even knowing it existed. I saw something online about it and then looked it up and saw that it starred Eddie Furlong hot off his success with T2 and figured I should check it out.

This film is not without its charms. It definitely feels like a fairly low-budget production that sometimes comes off as rather amatuerishly made, but I appreciated the early 90s nostalgic vibe and it was interesting to see Furlong play a character that wasn't John Connor, since for whatever reason he really didn't have a lot of high-profile roles after T2. It was also interesting to see a young Clancy Brown in a role that he seemed to really be having fun with.

There's nothing frightening about this film at all. It's definitely in the ranks of the "fun" horror movies rather than the actually "scary" horror movies, and in that regard it departs from the track laid down by the first film. But that's okay. The filmmakers here just decided to do their own thing.

I doubt I'll ever watch Pet Sematary 2 again, but I agree that it has some entertainment value and I don't regret checking it out.

Neither are good movies. But at least II is fun in a corny sort of way. The first is just plain bad.

I preferred this one as a kid.
