The saddest movie ever made?

I have literally been in tears the entire movie. It's a fantastic movie, but I don't think I'll ever watch it again, it's too much. What do you guys think?

Yes this has to be the most tear-jerking movie I've ever seen. I had cancer as a small child and to see what parents will ill children go through was just really touching. It takes so so so much strength to watch your child be weak and tired and faced with death at such a young age. Watching this movie made me think of my mother. Very heart breaking.

The whole ten minute segment in the hospital when the doctor says that Lorenzo won't have to "bear it much longer" and then the mother tells her son that if it is too much he should "fly to Jesus" (all with the father watching)... and with Lorenzo choking the whole time... is almost unbearable for me.

Maybe if the movie had focused on the parent's sorrow rather than them explaining lengthy scientific theories. It does capture their obsession well, as well as their love, but I have to say that Sarandon does lose my sympathy midway through the film.

The title of "Saddest Movie Ever Made" would probably go to Donnie Brasco in my opinion...

Plenty of sadder movies than this, Umberto D. comes to mind. I guess if you have a young child this might be right up their at the top of the "if you have a young child this movie will impact you emotionally" list.

i was looking at lists of "the saddest movies of all time" and was shocked to find that this movie never showed up on any of the lists.

i thought this movie was quite sad, and some of my other picks would be:

powder
mask
my girl

Takahata's "The Grave of the Fireflies"(1988) man. Dare you to find a sadder movie.

Yep Grave of the Fireflies makes this film look like Pollyanna.
