3 had that rotten cop who just isn't all that interesting. 4 had Jet Li, who doesn't even speak English. These could be good henchmen, but you need an overarching villain. In 2 you had a great villain and a henchman in those South Africans.

share3 seemed to cut back on the villains as main characters and part four seemed to try to fix that with more attention on the villains scheme and story. i think riggs and murtaugh taking on jet li together at the end was a nice touch.
