So disappointing...direc tor's cut

This was my first favorite movie that I can recall. I've loved this movie for 22 years. I remember seeing it multiple times in the theater and ordering it multiple times on Pay-per-view (the old version where you could only watch it one time). It's been years since seeing it and I recently decided to add it to my DVD library. I knew the director's cut was different, but...WOW! It lost so much of the magic. Changed and extended dialogue, the beautiful, haunting Clannad track, and more. I was horrified that they extended the end scene dialogue beyond Chingachgook's statement about being last of the mohican's. So much of the romance lost. It saddens me that I'll never again see the version that I grew up loving. It 'was' a truly lovely film.

I bought the original cut on Amazon and it turns out I liked that more than the director's 2 cuts (expanded version and definitive cut). Because of liking the 112 minute movie, I thought about selling the expanded version I bought (only to compare what's added and deleted. I only had the DC for almost 5 months.) but at the same time I don't want to because I liked to see and hear comparisons. I did a miniature Daniel Day-Lewis marathon and this 1992 flick is IMO my number 1 movie of my top 3. (In the Name of the Father and The Age of Innocence were my 2 and 3.) The line "someday, I think you and I are going to have a serious disagreement." is the best line yet.

Yeah, that added dialogue is near cringe-inducing. Sometimes less is more.
