Joe Jackson met Michael's mother when she was 17 years old.

They expect us to believe that Angela Basset was 17 in the beginning of this film.

She is an excellent actress and was fabulous as Tina Turner. But a 17 year old Katherine? No way

I think she was a believable teenager. Black people age really well anyway lol

That kind of thing is definitely a stretch, i think that's why they tend to not share ages in films where the actor is playing the character at a much younger time. I was just watching "Behind the Candelabra" again, and Scott Thorson was 17 when he met Liberace. There's no way Matt Damon passed for 17, so they just didn't say Scott's age.

To be fair though, Angela Basset did an incredibly good job with portraying Katherine from a teenage girl to a middle aged woman.

I thought so too. It was passable. Her crush on Joe really sold it for me as she was was skipping around and giggling whenever she got around him.
