The night that lasts forever....

The film begins in the Chinese restaurant across the street from the office. It looks really late like near closing time. More people drinking than eating. Then we find out what time it is because the meeting is for 7:30.

So let's say the meeting was an hour who starts making calls at 8:30? Who meets with people in their homes late a night?

Because people work during g the day...?

Are you serious? Ok they would do appointments in the evening but they would not do a sit at 11PM.

As someone with a 100% commission sales job, I can tell you that you sit down with clients whenever they want to sit down. It is absolutely not up to you, and you never say no. Saying “no” can end up costing you more in a night than your average 9-to-5 office worker makes in six months. That said, it’s also a movie, and having scenes take place late at night adds a sense of desperation and drama that the same scene set at 2pm simply wouldn’t have.

Bingo!

In another thread, I speculated that Blake (if he's the monster salesman he claims to be) would've never wasted his time with Spannel the way Shelley did. He'd see the guy was immune to a high-pressure pitch and moved on.

But it never occurred to me until this thread's reply that late-night cold calls were actually INTENTIONAL, as a way to identify the easy marks.

Sort of like Nigerian Prince scam emails ... they're written poorly on purpose. People smart enough to see the poor grammar are going to be the toughest to con. People dumb enough NOT to notice the poor grammar are more likely to fall for the scam.
