shareyea im watching this in history and its unedited and im in junior high. im just saying, i mean the whole brothel thing and what that has to do with native americans i dunno...what do u think?
shareYeah, i watched this movie in Us history class too and im a junior and at first i was like trying to figure out if it was a brothel, and it was
i was laughin
I would worry more about the violence and fighting in that movie! American society is a bit twisted that way, violence is okay, but everything relating to sex (which is a natural part of human life) is a no-no! Jesus Christ...
shareyaa i watched that movie in my americas class (also a junior in h.s.)...i would have to agree with the violence vs. sex thing lol
share"violence is okay, but everything relating to sex (which is a natural part of human life) is a no-no!"
Yeah, right. Try watching the news, or reading history, or looking out your f@*#ing window...and tell me what is more "natural" to man--sex, or violence...
"Yeah, right. Try watching the news, or reading history, or looking out your f@*#ing window...and tell me what is more "natural" to man--sex, or violence..."
I didn't say violence was NOT natural for man. I'm saying that violence shouldn't be accepted or admired (as it usually is on tv and movies). Violence hurts and kills people, whereas sex is necessary for reproduction and at its best is a celebration of love between two persons.
Violence = Funny. Is that so hard to comprehend? Yeah, it hurts. But it's damn exhilirating. When you see someone getting in a fight, what do you start to do? "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!" It gets the blood pumping and it helps you connect with a myriad of people. That's the thing. You can fight with EVERYONE (except puppies, kittens, old ladies, and sick children) but you can't have sex with everyone. No, seriously, it's physically impossible to have sex with EVERYONE. Sex is at its best when it's between two, at most three, people. The best fights are between, oh....10 or more people - as long as it classifies as a 'brawl' and not a 'riot'. Because riots are based on sports scores (icky) and political injustice (not fun anymore.)
Whatev.
I'm a junior in US History, and we're in the middle of watching it. Shannon just got shot in the shoulder. I love how my teacher just doesn't give a *beep* about what is in this movie though.
shareBasically, I don't think there's a whole lot that's too inappropriate, just as long as the audience is mature enough to take it (unfortunately, not many teenagers have this level of maturity.) I'm watching it in my US History class (I personally hate it... but I'm not here to write that kind of editorial) but I've personally seen worse and I'm pretty sure most of the other students in my class and other class who are watching it have as well.
shareits ok...now were watching Glory, that civil war one with Matthew Brodrick and Morgan Freeman. its unedited. and yes we irish have but 1 liver, but in Glory that one soldier now has but one leg. i know, i saw them cut it off.
"I brought my own cream corn because at the movies their cream corn is too crispy."
yeah they showed schindlers list in my junior high history, so compared to that this is rather tame.
shareThat wasn't easy to watch--or hear...
shareYeah, we watched it for social studies class. My class was randomly saying things like. "Tom Cruise got owned!!!" Or when the lady asks shannon if she got a good look at Joseph, someone said "Oh, she TOTALLY got a look at him!"
BadaBing-BadaBoom
Yeah, I heard more or less the same from my class. We watched it yesterday (may 25th) and today, the last two days of school. I think the movie is set in the late 1800's (post civil war) a period during which there were a lot of Irish immigrants and other Europeans coming to the U.S. for opportunity. I only got to watch up to the part where Tom Cruise and the girl that pays for his trip to America end up at the brothel and Tom Cruise beats up the men harasssing the girl. I find it very interesting so far. I might rent it or something to finsih the rest
shareHaha that's what my social science class in doing. We just finished Far and Away and now we are watching Glory.
Both boring, in my opinion.
i'm not THAT insane...
Crap i watched glory when i was in 9th grade and yau i am going to have to see it again cause before i couldnt get into but far and awasy was pretty good.
shareyeah i just finished watching this movie in my us history class today.. it was actually good.. but a little while ago we watched glory and i didnt really like that
but when we watched far and away.. my teacher fast forwarded through the boxing scenes but kept liek the sex scenes on? haha it was weird
thats crazy...like a month ago..we were studying the Civil War and we watch Glory. it was a pretty amazing movie i thought.....and now we are studying the frontier and are watching Far and Away.....and i'm only in junior high...
sharewhat is so bad about this movie I am actually going to be a junior and i see nothing bad in the movie Everything you see in the movie you will once see in life.
sharei did too
but my social teacher hated our class
and skipped all the best parts as punishment =(
and i got in trouble cuz i kept screaming at the fight scenes
lol over all... didn't learn much
take it from someone born and raised in Leitrim: i hope none of you, including your teacher, believe this movie is an accurate portrayal of Irish history at any point. Ron Howard should be shot for attempting to tell the story of a people and culture he's know's nothing about. don't get me wrong, I realize it's just a stupid movie, but it's def not history.
sharei cant remember why but our teacher showed us this movie in like 7th grade and all he would show us is when tom cruise is in a boxing match or bar fight or something and yea when i was a sophmore we also watched glory unedited and then we watched a bruce lee movie
shareThat they show this movie in school classes is a testament to why essentially every first-world country on the planet kicks U.S. ass in public education. That's just desperately sad. It's worse than showing "Gladiator" for a class on Roman history.
I guess the school board, or teachers, or whoever decides these things figures that "Lawrence of Arabia", or even "Patton" doesn't have enough cute Aussie redheads to keep horny teenagers interested.
My god, if you think this movie is real, then you're in trouble
Nobody, not even poets have measured how much a heart can hold
I can't believe you guys are watching this in school. I agree with those saying it can't be historically accurate. You're lucky though, even if you find this movie boring, its way more interesting than just reading a boring history book. Wish I could have watched far and away in class when I was in school.
shareim a shopmore and were gonna finish it tomarrow. i dont know what it has to do with native amercans. were watching cause... well i dont know why
Man, I take one shower a month, and still I get no privacy!
