Bait and switch

They bait us with a seductive poster of Miranda Richardson, whose character and story turns out to be secondary to the primary story involving Stephen Rea and the tranny.

It depends on the poster some have Dill in them instead. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=the+crying+game+movie+poster&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwigtdqflI73AhXVKbcAHSjdDrEQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=the+crying+game+movie+poster&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQ6BAgAEEM6BAgAEB46BggAEAgQHjoECAAQGFCeAVi_F2DSGGgBcAB4AIABsQGIAegQkgEEMC4xNZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=OT9VYuC0DNXT3LUPqLq7iAs&bih=657&biw=1366

But I do get your point. I felt like it was a bait and switch from the start of the film, Jody being on patrol in Northern Ireland being kidnapped etc. I was set for a very different kind of film. Then it becomes kind of ordinary even with the "oh so clever" (not really) plot twist.

I didn't know anything about the film first time I saw it and I could tell Dill wasn't female.
