The "good" blacks are lite-white
The "bad" blacks dark like tires.
shareThen howcome that one troubled inner-city youth is so hood and disrespectful in the first season of that one show, while his cousin Carlton is such a preppy, polished prude?

Was The movie Class Act problematic?
https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/was-the-movie-class-act-problematic.1891975/
In this coming of age 90's classic we see the famous Christopher Reid and Christopher Martin (known for their titular roles as Kid N Play in cult classic house party series ) team up once more to give us a non-stop thrill ride as the two switch roles for a 'fish out of water' epic.
while the movie went on to gain critical acclaim and become a renown cult classic, upon revisiting it, i couldn't help but think...Is this problematic? Short answer? yes.
The story involves Reids character (duncan) switching places with Martins (blade). Reid being a A+ successful but socially introverted student manages to somehow get his permanent record mixed up with bad boy and and soon to be highschool drop out blade.
here's the issue.
duncan is very lightskin.
the girl blade ends up falling for is pretty lightskin as well. not as lightskin as duncan but lightskin ENOUGH.
on the opposite end we have BLADE BROWN, who couldn't be anymore darkskin!
we also have Damita, who couldn't be any more fine, and also darkskin!
Now, riddle me this! Why is it that both light skinned characters are not only depicted as being well off children, from two parent homes but also are more intelligent and successful?
why is the dark skinned lead, an ex convict and sociopath? Why is the dark skinned female an obvious sex kitten and used only to awaken the sexuality of the lightskinned character? and why is the lightskinned FEMALE character only used to educate and straighten out our dark skin protagonist?
by the end of the movie they both prevail as it ends with a rather raunchy scene that suggest, the light skins have been properly turnt out and the dark skins will graduate highschool and stay out of jail.
Trash SJW garbage. Fuck off.
shareThe characters where based on the early life's of kid n play, kid was a nerd with blg glasses and play was a stick up kid,so it was nothing to do with skin colour.
Only a racist would notice something like that and feel compelled to share it with other people.
shareYes, light-skinned blacks are considered by society to be "better" than dark-skinned blacks. This is obvious and it's for the same reason that America's first black President was half white. And the first nonwhite female candidate for President was really Asian.
For you kneejerk reactionaries on this thread who doubt that, explain Obama and Harris. No descendent of African-American slaves have gotten anywhere near the White House.
I disagree that society views them that way. I think most non blacks would just consider them black, with no extra consideration for the shade. The only colorism I’ve ever heard comes from black people about other black people. I’ve never heard non black people talking about light skinned, or dark skinned stereotypes. Black people have tons of them though. Even the term you used, when you said descendant of slaves. That is something black people say to gatekeep blackness, no other race cares about that distinction.
shareOf course, the one drop rule. Black is black. White people don't really give a shit.
Obama is essentially a white man, raised by white women in Honolulu. Harris isn't even black. She was raised as a South Asian.
You haven't address why we've had two Democratic "black" candidates run for President but neither grew up in an African American community.
Colorism is often within a culture. Do you think black people care about the difference between a pasty white Irishman, and an Olive skin Italian? Or just white people in general?
You are setting up a bit of false scenario. Just last year We also had Tim Scott, and Larry Elder running for president as Republicans. Byron Donalds was also a strong candidate to be Trumps running mate at one point. And yes they didn’t get very far, but neither did Kamala Harris. Barack Obama is kind of an anomaly.
You should probably question why the democrat party is interested in passing their candidates off as black. Isn’t the first Indian Vice President just as historic?
Tim Scott is not only a closeted homosexual, but he's about as exciting as an old Cosby rerun. Larry Elder is a right-wing nut who was trounced 2 to 1 when he ran for California governor. Neither were serious candidates.
It's obvious why Harris pretended to be black. Blacks have political clout. South Asians don't.
I've agreed that the "one drop rule" is still in play. I just think it's obvious that a light-skinned black is viewed as less a threat to the white order than a dark-skinned black.
