Capesh-- General: Roll Call.

Alright, since this is apparently the go-to board for discussing capesh-- casually, I'm just going to lay out the roll call.

Troll In The Dungeon, standing by.

Several Chinese posters on BoxOffice.com are reporting that the CW final trailer is getting the crasiest buzz there.

It is likely to obliterate AOU's $240M and could reach as much as Y2000+, meaning challenging and even passing Transformers $320M if legs are as great as Civil War suggests they are.

Also, in another news Disney's Zoopatia has high sky wom there and is currently on pace to hit $220+M in China right now, which means, it has a slight chance to take down AOU and finish as the highest animation there.

Spider-Man is huge in the Asian markets. I expect this to blow everything out the water.

Have to say that I'm glad to have a discussion place set up. Given how quickly the Civil War board went downhill after a trailer I'm dreading how it will be once BvS is released and once Civil War is released.

How do we tell the good guys from the bad guys?
If they're shooting at you, they're bad.

reply

Agreed. Its a perfect example of how things will be when the movie is released. Just waiting on the rest of the gang to chime in.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "capesh--"? Is it a term for discussing Civil War? Am I out of touch?

Also, and apologies if this isn't the place to post this, but I think Lego may have just dropped an epic spoiler in their Civil War sets. Spoilery spoil-spoil speculation below:
Interesting (and exciting!) if it turns out that big figure is truly reflective of the scene in question. Could be nothing, of course, just Lego taking some creative license, but you never know.

"Capesh--" is a portmanteau term of "Capes" and "Apesh--". Obviously, IMDB's silly censors won't let me type out the phrase in full. But in general, it's internet slang used to described superhero movies - even if the superheroes in question don't actually wear capes.

Thank you! That's neat, I like that. Every day's a school day!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know when CW gets released in China?

Before Avengers, MOS was gonna go the route of the Nolan trilogy. A CBM that's self contained and not meant to exist in a world with other heroes. But since Avengers destroyed records and IM3 made 2x the gross of MOS, those plans changed. Now as far as who came up with the idea first, I believe Marvel had the idea of developing the movie for a long time. It was just a matter of setting up enough characters and what not. So in theory, Marvel had the idea to do it first, but WB announced it first.

I believe that DC had plans for it for a while (apparently, they wanted Christopher Nolan to be the architect of the setting), but obviously, Marvel's shared universe came first. Although, you could argue that since the original script for a Batman VS Superman movie was written in 2002, WB certainly had the initiative to make a shared universe before Marvel did, if only with those two properties. There was also Justice League: Mortal, a movie planned for a 2009 release that was boned by a writer's strike.

Personally, I would give WB some credit for thinking of the idea, but Marvel deserves more for proving that it could actually work.

I think the Batman vs Superman thing was a fan film. Nothing officially that got traction at WB i believe. The JL film in 2008 was gonna have a different Superman from Snyder's version.

Back from the press screening. Two and a half hours definitely not wasted.

Rank it. And BTW, when does the embargo lift?

I put it on my list of Top 10 DC adaptations. Embargo lifts in 3 hours and 10 minutes.

9/10 is high. Just out of curiosity, do you think its better than the upper echelon Marvel films?

Urich: Guess I have more faith in humanity. Fisk: So did Christ, if I recall.

reply

I'd say it's on par with Iron Man, The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy (my favorite Marvel Studios solo films), slightly below The Avengers and, outside the MCU, Spider-Man 2 and X2.
