Great film!

I watched Bram Stoker's Dracula last night on DVD and I loved it!. Gary
Oldman I hardly recognized.

The special effects were great. The castle reminded me of the tall strange building in the film Psycho.

Anthony Hopkins was also great, and the special effects were amazing.

The ending was just what I hoped it would be...

Dracula had his head chopped off!

Love it, this movie has been one of my top 10s since I saw it in the theater!

Now for a sequel with "John Wick" fighting vampires, taking over for Van Helsing.

I think it's a minor classic, myself. I love how stylized it is, the visuals and the acting. Coppola really created an alternate reality where you could believe these supernatural events could happen. Perhaps his last great movie.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be a real common opinion.

I think most people liked it fine and I remember critics raving about it during its theatrical release, since we didn't get gothic horror movies like this that much anymore. I certainly enjoyed it. The rest is just hipster posturing.
The cinemasins episode for this movie just dropped and the commentary is so smug and obnoxious when critiquing it.

I loved the book, I liked the visuals in this film.

But gotta admit - it was slow and boring

It’s been described as ‘Flash Gordon for goths’

I like that description. The film is campy with overblown panto performances which spill into comedy - especially Hopkins’ crazy antics and Oldman as old Drac cackling with his little finger extended over his mouth like Dr Evil - but it’s genuinely dark, full of disturbing imagery and gallons of blood. It really feels surreal and of another era.

Keanu’s godawful performance and Richard E Grant’s pratfall on the bear rug are other highlights.

I agree with your points. I hated how they did Lucy's character. That's my gripe. The makeup was awesome. I love the old man makeup, but I almost wish they did the rat-like look described in the book. That being said, Dracula's forms are iconic.
