Batman the animated series connections

Since both this and the animated show came out the same year, noticed how Burtony the animated show was at times with the influence even Selina Kyle who looks like Michelle on the show in the first 3 seasons and Penguin looking like Devito to Jack Napier's name?

You are correct, the designs for Penguin and Catwoman initially looked more like the classic tuxedo Penguin and Julie Newmar style Catwoman but they were changed to specifically resemble the characters in Batman Returns, also Danny Elfmann made the themes to both, but that's as far as it goes with similarities, since their stories were different.

And what about the use of the Duckmobile and Jack Napier?

reply

those two also came from the Burton films, definitely. Also I believe the doctor in the episode Tyger Tyger is modeled after Dr Pretorious from Bride Of Frankenstein.

reply

Yup and he also looked like John Glover as well

reply

yes, you can also spot Randa Dwayne which was based on Marilyn Monroe and Clayface transforms into a character that looks like Bettie Page.

The cartoon does not look like the 1960's Batman @ all. This was influenced by the Burton era Batman--where he is dark, brooding, and not happy go-lucky. The only reason I think it got slotted for afternoon was that it was a cartoon and Fox wasn't sure it could run @ night. This was also before the internet was really widespread. Now I think they would just put it online.
