If you can find it the much more kid friendly BRAT Patrol starring Sean Astin about kids thwarting gun runners on a military base, it was made by Disney for their wonderful world of Disney in the mid 80s.

Toy Soldiers -

a fun 80's movie about terrorists shooting up school kids?
OMG!

Techically, the only kid who got shot was acting like a friggin idiot running around campus with an uzi and shooting uncontrollably all around him (when he had a free ticket out of there). He's lucky he never blew away any of his fellow students.

This may not have been an 80s movie (although it may have been filmed in late 89) but I thought it was fun as all hell. Damn fun. The dialogue, action and characters are all a freakin blast. Probably one of the most entertaining films I've seen.

Water, my ass! Bring this guy some pepto bismol!

Wow! Huge call! I thought it was very, very ordinary.

Well, maybe in the top 20 most fun movies I've seen. As a cult movie it's a definite hidden treasure I think. I mean, the movie has a great pace on top of an original story. A lot of suspense and tension as well as comedy and great action scenes. The finale with all the special forces and assault choppers is great. Toy Soldiers always had a lot of things going for it. Could never understand why it wasn't better known. Feels like one of those movies that has something a little extra to make it stand out.

This may fall more into the 90s.. but I remember Corey Haim did 2 school movies about fighting terrorists.. definite B movies.. but I think they were called "Demolition High" and "Demolition University".
