Why does the terminator wear sunglasses in this
It literally has no need to wear them, unlike the first movie.
Another example of Cameron selling out using “kewl iconography” from the original to sell action figures

I know now why you nitpick T2
But it is something I can never do.
Just another thing in this film that makes no sense.
shareIn the first film it was to hide that one of his eyes was damaged (plus practically the film crew had a hard time hiding it... even with the sunglasses on you can see that his eyes are fine in a lot of shots).
In the sequel it was just to look cool. He steals them from the guy with the shotgun for no real reason and even pauses a moment to look at them as though he "remembers" them from the first film. We as the audience would remember that, but it doesn't make any sense for him to since he's supposedly an entirely different model.
But maybe it makes *some* sense in context if you remember that all the terminators are now descendants of the first one since his un-crushed hand and microchip survived the first movie and went on to create the basis of skynet, so maybe buried somewhere in that microchip was the memory of having worn the sunglasses on its last time travel trip.
I'm just steel-manning the argument here as I love the original T1 and only think of T2 as an "above average" action film with excellent effects.
None of T2 makes sense including why the T-1000 stays in Robert Patrick's form for the entire film. Take killing the cop at the beginning. Why has he left a dead cop where he can be found instead of just transforming into the cop?
T1 will always be the superior film to me.
Yeah think of how stupid it was to keep looking like Patrick when there were so many times it could have taken the form of Arnold or Linda Hamilton and just walked right up to John Connor and killed him easily.
shareOr when he's on top of the elevator trying desperately to stab John with his large blades through the roof. Just cut the elevator wires and let them drop. It might kill him, it might not but there's a good chance it will and it would certainly seriously injure him if it doesn't to make it easier to distract/slow down Sarah and the T-800.
That was the problem with making the villain so advanced in this. It means having to also make it conveniently stupid at certain points so that it can't succeed.
It's common sense: Every elevator has safety locks to prevent it from dropping. Cutting wires wouldn't cause it to drop.
shareI believe T-1000 can only replicate complex shapes that he's been in contact with first, to gather information. It's actually made more explicit in some of the cut scenes (and in an audio commentary). That's why he only morphs into Sarah after he pierced her shoulder.
That being said, he DID have that brawl with the T-800 at the beginning.... and where did he get the Robert Patrick template ? Yeah, doesn't make much sense, but I personally don't find it to really matter. The film is so well shot and edited...
But yeah, 1984's The Terminator all the way otherwise. It's Cameron's masterpiece. Never made a greater film.
