Sarah, Silberman and Cyberdyne (spoilers)

Just watched T1 for the first time in a while, and got thinking about the interrogation scene. Reese mentions Cyberdyne a few times, so Sarah and Dr Silberman hear the company name when they watch the tape.

In T2, when John talks about Sarah being locked up for 'trying to blow up a factory', could that've been Cyberdyne, as she knew the name?

As for Silberman, would his knowledge of the company make him a threat, and/or were they using him to keep Sarah under control?

Much credit to you for putting spoiler in your heading. I believe Silberman was working undercover for Cyberdyne at the time. He wanted to keep Sarah locked up. Cyberdyne promised to turn him into a Terminator after the war began

You know, I just watched the first three Terminator movies in a row this past weekend while doing various projects around my house and it was the "background noise" and I took a break and was watching the interrogation scene with Reese. Then, when the review scene with Sarah in T2 comes up it hits me like a hammer: Silberman and his spare tire knew what Reese was talking about from 1984. T2 takes place in 1995 or 1996 and he should damn well know what Sarah is talking about.

He KNOWS she was being chased by "something" in 1984, he was fucking THERE when Arnie comes in and "killed 17 police officers that night.... men with families...." and all of the sudden she's not credible???? Fuck up out here, Doc. T2 is one of my all-time favorite movies but I call this a suspicious plot hole. Still love both of these films... and cbsteven, you ask a good question: was Cyberdyne trying to keep a lid on everything? I mean Miles Dyson was told to "not ask" as well. It's also why I prefer the extended edition of T2 to the theatrical. Excellent backstory scenes in there.

Silberman wasn't physically present at the cop shop when the shootout happened, remember? He left just as the Terminator entered the building, and didn't even see it, because his beeper distracted him at the door. When the shooting finally happened, Silberman was already merrily on his way home, all he knew in 1984 was that some crazed gunman entered the police station right after he left and killed a bunch of cops. The fight at Pescadero was actually his first time physically witnessing the Terminators. The look on his face tells as much.

Null, you're 100% correct. I do remember him leaving, checking his beeper and shit. However, all I was saying was he knew that something major happened. He's questioning Reese, calling him a loon - he's trying to save Sarah this whole time... but then Sarah is in his "care" years later? All I am saying is he had to know there was a connection and maybe not be so "sciencey" about it - or black and white. However, it's a movie.... I get it.

I do love the look on his face as the T-1000 goes through the bars. What I was talking about was the credibility that he took away from Sarah and it plays into a fan theory that he was working with Cyberdyne all along.

I disagree that Silberman was working with cyberdyne. There's nothing in the movie that even hints at his involvement.

As for hearing the name cyberdyne, it was probably a legit company that was already founded in the early 80's before Reese's arrival. So they could just say Reese plucked any computer company name. The same as if somebody from the future came to our time and started raving about Apple or google taking over the world.

As for the credibility he's taken from Sarah. He really wouldn't have to do anything. She was arrested for trying to blow up a factory. She was a free woman until this act. She was acting incredibility unstable on video in lockup and was clearly a danger to people around her. She attacked several workers and Silberman himself(She stabbed me with my pen a week ago). One of those encounters she held him as a hostage as under direct intention and threat of death.

Honestly, Sarah probably was crazy after the events of the first movie even if she was right about the future. I mean I would have to say anybody who endured what Sarah did and having to be the only person in the world that knew its grim fate would be.

At this point the only thing Cyberdyne is guilty of is possibly helping cover up finding the terminator remains. I personally would say the police and feds were more responsible for the cover up than Cyberdyne itself.
