I can't believe people actually liked this piece of crap. Congratulations Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd...your careers are over. Any movie that needs Digital Underground to spice things up can't be good.
The fact that the recommendation for those who like this movie is Ghostbusters II is a disgrace. At least GBII had that Bobby Brown song. My recommendation: If you like this movie, run in front of a bus.
oh man, my roommate bought this from the $5 bin at walmart, too! except she rememebered it as a good movie from her childhood.
i've watched this movie twice now. i really hate to be snobby and not give a movie a chance, but i have and it is The Worst Movie Ever. hands down. like, Plan 9 and the Pod People..you can still laught AT the movie. with nothing but trouble, you neither laugh with the movie or at it, i just had a disgusted look on my face.
this movie actually offended me in its badness.
i do'nt want to say it's THE worst movie...but i honestly cannot think of a movie that i've seen as bad as this.
OK, so first off, this movie is not good as a movie. Secondly, it is not gut wrenchingly bad. I mean it has to be better than some of the land before time sequels just because of who is in it. Now anyone who says they cannot laugh at this movie needs to have their head examined. There has to be at least one funny part. Did anyone notice that Dan Aykroyd had a penis for a nose. If you don't think that is funny then you must be really boring. I am a devout christian and I think it is funny, but enough on my beliefs. To say this is the worst movie ever and that there is not a single funny part is a little harsh. Also saying that it is a great movie is wrong, because it isn't. It is pretty bad but that is what makes it funny, that and Chevy Chase and the rest of the cast have some corny but semi funny one liners. So to all of you who hate it, watch it again and learn to laugh at its badness. Learn to lighten up and have a good time, thats what movies like this are supposed to be about. If you want a movie you are supposed to be serious and think about then watch Momento or Seven or Shawshank Redemption or American History X. This is not a deep movie and is not supposed to be, so sit back and have some fun.
I said it once, i will say it again... The people who trash this movie and call it the worst of all time, if you were next to me right now, i'd slap you in the friggn head! The nerve to call something liek this trash baffles me!
pminer, you must have little to no sense of humor, this movie was VERY funny and quirky, a very different style of comedy compared to most of todays garbage that call themselves comedies, there will never again be a comedy that teams up so many well above average comedy actors in one film, although the movie rat race was pretty close.
This movie isn't for everyone. No movie is. It's not worthy of any awards, but I enjoyed it. I still laugh out loud recalling certain parts. There have been Oscar-worthy movies I didn't care for, but I appreciate them for what they are. I appreciate this movie for what it is - entertaining. You don't have to bash it just because it's not your cup of tea.
If you don't like this movie then you can't like :
The Addams Family Clue The Rocky Horror Picture Show
because if you did like those movies then surely you would appreciate the gothic playfulness of it all.
If you don't like those movies then you have no right trying to judge this one. Just because you don't like apples doesn't mean that this is a bad apple.
In 1991, Chase reuinted with Dan Aykroyd for Aykroyd’s directorial debut, Nothing But Trouble.
Aykroyd wrote the script with his brother. As writer, director and co-star, Aykroyd had free reign to make as weird of a movie as he wanted. And he took full advantage of that opportunity making a movie that was less funny than off-putting. Chase co-starred opposite Demi Moore as a couple that gets into legal trouble with an eccentric judge played by Aykroyd.
Nothing But Trouble had a toxic reputation before it was even released. The reviews were terrible and the movie flopped.
Moore followed up Ghost with a string of box office disappointments in 1991. The first was the aptly titled Nothing But Trouble.
Nothing But Trouble was a big-budgeted comedy written, directed and starring Dan Aykroyd. It is exhibit A in the argument that Dan Aykroyd should never be allowed to have that much creative control over a picture.
Nothing But Trouble wasn’t just a bomb and a critical failure. It became a cautionary tale. But much like Wisdom could be blamed on Emilio Estevez, Aykroyd (and to a lesser degree an increasingly lazy Chevy Chase) took the fall.
Aykroyd won for Worst Supporting Actor and it is well-deserved. But really, Aykroyd’s win is more for writing and directing the appropriately named flop, Nothing But Trouble. Aykroyd has shown that he can be funny. But his natural instincts are that weird *beep* is always funny. The weirder the better. Both Ghostbusters and The Blues Brothers had to be reigned in from Aykroyd’s excessive strangeness. Nothing But Trouble is Aykroyd unrestrained and it’s not a pretty sight.
The truth is, Aykroyd’s behind-the-camera work is even more deserving than his performance as a grotesque judge delivered beneath several pounds of latex. But at least he got his due here.
I disagree that this is one of the worst movies of all time, Chevy Chase's career was on a downhill slide but John Candy did appear in a couple more great films like "Only The Lonely" and "Cool Runnings" (Which was IMO John Candy's last great movie).
