shareA contrivance is more like it; how the hell would Nino know she was a schoolteacher? I still like the flick, but certain things about it irk me to this day. Like when Kareem suddenly exposes Scotty; it doesn't dawn on you that the guy you're involved in illegal activities with is the same guy you saw shoot some dude in a park until he BENT DOWN IN THE SAME KNEELING POSITION THAT HE DID YEARS EARLIER!?! Akbar, you're an idiot.
shareI took it as maybe Ice-T's character in the movie had a mom who was a school teacher who was gunned down by a thug and when Nino said she could've been a school teacher that was all he needed to connect the dots and make the judgement, regardless of whether it was actually true or not.
Or it could indeed be contrived writing.

Yeah. Blame that on the hackneyed script. The whole thing is a series of contrivances and cliches.

The whole twist that Nino killed Scotty's mother reminds me of how Tim Burton changed the mythos around when he made the 1989 Batman movie. That being that it was revealed that the man who would become the Joker was the one responsible for killing Bruce Wayne's parents. In the comics, Joe Chill was the one who killed Bruce Wayne's parents not Jack Napier.
shareMaybe she looked astute, maybe she was dressed like a teacher, maybe her hair was in a bun, maybe she wore glasses and carried papers and books, maybe she was by a school when he saw and shot her. Who cares? It worked for the film.
Oh yeah, you can keep the affirmative token.
