Out of all the movies out there that are over 3 hours long this one that stands out to me as one that never gets boring or really feels like a "long movie". It's just so damn compelling.

I have aquaintances that believe a conspiracy was afoot...you cant reason with them
Oswald was a very good (Marine Corps-trained) shooter
The Italian 6.5 mm Carcano rifle is a decent weapon...he was just a lone madman who did a horrible thing with a pretty good gun...no conspiracy bullshit needed

It could have been shortened by a half-hour if every scene with Sissy Spacek and the kids was excised. Those were terrible. I cringe when that child says "Daddy never keeps his promises". We don't give a damn about his family life. It's the thriller stuff about the conspiracy (whether real or bullshit) that makes the film so compelling. I feel sorry for the great actress Sissy Spacek for having to appear in scenes so poorly written.
