Who saw this movie in the theater and could tell us about the experience?
sharei saw it with my wife we liked it and people in the cinema in Bradford cheered at the end not cuz they were happy that the movie ended but that they liked it.

shareI saw this film in the UK upon it's original release. Strangely enough, I didn't see the supposed 'UK and European cut' but instead the 'American cut' with the two MacLeod/Katana swordfights edited together at the climax and the film ending just after MacLeod destroys the shield (no 'fairytale ending'). I can only assume that some UK cinemas screened the 'American cut' while other showed the 'UK/European cut'.
Anyway, this was pre-internet, but if I recall correctly the movie was released in the UK a few months or several weeks after it had debuted in the US, and UK sci-fi magazines such as Starburst and Fear had already reported that it was pretty terrible (in fact, when I told a friend I was going to see the film she said "Why? Isn't it supposed to be awful?"). There were about a dozen or so people attending the screening I went to. My strongest memory is a guy sitting two rows behind me with his girlfriend and clearly a fan of the first film, who - when MacLeod had the flashback about Zeist - muttered loudly in disbelief "What?! He was born in Scotland!!"
