A GAY MOVIE OR NOT??? WHY DOES IT MATTER!!

All i see on these message boards is people calling out other people for not seeing what they saw in the film!! THIS IS ABOUT THE FILM NOT THE BOOK!! This movie was about love and nothing more!! And here you people are getiing into rediculous name calling fights over a movie about love, how ironic!! You all should be ashamed!!!

I think when people said that if they made it clear in the movie the two were gay, they wouldnt have liked it as much, is beacuse people put much more emotion into their best friends!! When you make a best friend you dont ever concider your firendship ending, but when you take on a lover, you immediatly begin to think about the inevidable end to the relationship!! It has nothing to do with being homophobic!!

I never thought for one miniute that they were lesbiens, and that didnt rob me of the ability to understand and enjoying the movie! Sex is such a small part of all of our lives and relationships that if it were to not exist im sure many things would be the same as they are now!! ( im sure there will be those of you who say hey i love sex and it is a big part of my life, all i have to say to that *beep* You have sex , you arent sex, and you cant sex someone!! But love some one ..YES Be loved...YES!!! This world needs to get over it already!!

If anything, not showing the lesbien love in the movie showed just how unimportant it was to them!! They were best friends, they were soul mates, they were eachothers rock, they were the light of eachothers lives and that was not because they were lesbiens it was beacuse the loved eachother, nothing more!!

Im just so sick of people calling others homophobic becasue they didnt get a gay vibe to this or other movies!! That doesnt mean you are homophobic, it just mean that they have their own opinin!!

Also before all the high and mightys out there go crazy....No everthing here is not spelled correctly..my mind was movng too fast!! So go toot your horn some where elese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never knew that in the book they were gay, but imo the movie is about true platonic love. In the late 1800s-early 1900s females would have extremely complex and emotionally deep and fulfilling relationships, probably much more so that anything we experience now. I think these friendships arose because men and women weren't "equals" in marriage and often weren't friends and women had to go outside of marriage to get that kind of fulfillment. This movie doesn't take place that long after that time, in the 1930s if I remember correctly.

I got no lesbian vibes from the movie, but then again I haven't seen it in a long time. But the most beautiful thing about the movie is the respectful, loving and deep female relationships that you don't see in many movies these days, where they are all so shallow and revolve around shopping. Even Cathy Bate's relationship with her girlfriend, that was slightly conventional, was still deeper and more interesting than most female relationships we see in movies these days.

IMO people who have read the book just plan need to get over it. The movie is it's own thing, and needs to be taken as such and in the movie they obviously weren't lovers.

Only commenting on dress code.

Pre mid 1920s Legs were not something that might light up a mans eyes unless he could afford the theatre or even burlesque.

Personally I feel that today an attractive leg shape is not hidden even by certain types of trouser covering. But it may please certain two faced people of faith who want WHITE women not to show off their bits. I suggest that a great many females have legs that should be contained by trousers and perhaps many of those ladies out there feel that they do not have a decently shaped leg so choose always to wear long dresses or trousers. They may also not wish to give their legs a monthly haircut. Therefore they are all potentially [Lebanese]. By the same rule I suppose those beautiful young men with heavily tattooed legs that require the obligatory wearing of shorts to show how valuable those legs and sometimes those arms on display are homosexual or just closet types doing a peacock type display.

I do not know if I could be really close to a male friend in a way that might be misinterpreted. I also do not think I could be very close to the opposite sex in perhaps a work colleague without some sort of sex attraction. Today yes I am a retired civil servant at 69 so that or even THAT does not arise [RISE]. I have however had what might be called a FAN type love and the one in particular:I practically adored every word he spoke was the LATE SIR Terry Wogan.

No. Young girls who desire to run jump and wear trousers are not [lebanese] all the time.

Not yet seen this movie but it came free with a newspaper some time ago so I might watch it. At my age it might be that I have but have well forgotten.
I do believe that a 'friendship' can be almost as intense as love.
