I wonder if this film was an underhanded parody of...

... the white upper class. Something about this film seemed too stereotypical.. in a very subtle ''snide'' way. I just saw the film for the first time last year and I can't help but feel like the director was throwing some shade. The sequel even more so. The two films are like parodies of the lives of affluent whites with every single stereotype thrown in. I think this went over peoples heads when it came out as just a heartfelt family comedy of a man's daughter getting married. I think this is more a satire I know it's a remake but when the film was remade it had a different intent.

No.

I think people in other countries were in shock how rich the Banks were and yet their daughter is marrying a "rich kid".

It's rich and richer.

reply

People in other countries don’t really have any money! Seeing American wealth is jaw dropping to them.

Funny, because all these fellas look like working bums from here...
Which "other countries" are you dreaming of?

reply

London, Norwayland and Europe. Maybe Singapore.

RockStone, is that you?

I remember watching it and laughing when Steve Martin referred to San Marino as a "middle class" neighborhood. Ridiculously opulent estates founded by railroad tycoons. It's been "Chan Marino" for the last 20 years due to all the Chinese buying up the place.

I think pretty much any movie or book about upper class rich people could be seen in this light.
