Jason Patric should have played Jim

How the hell did they not have Jason Patric play Jim Morrison ?!? In the Lost Boys they had a scene that showed Patric next to a picture of Morrison....they looked like they would be related!

How did this never happen?!?!

reply

Val Kilmer was perfect in this. Nobody else could have played him as perfectly.

reply

We don't like J Patric.

reply

Nobody could've played it as well as Kilmer did. This movie is so good because of Kilmer. Have you ever read what Val did to get ready for the role? It's crazy.

reply

I totally agree! As an avid Doors fan, I felt as if Jason Patric was the natural and only choice for this role, not only is he a dead ringer for Morrison but also a dedicated, talented actor , however, Kilmer was entertaining if somewhat satirical.

reply

He was up for the role in one of the various Doors/Jim biopic projects that didnt quite materialize.

There were many. There was even one with John Travolta years before that.

reply

I remember reading in Rolling Stone before the Oliver Stone movie was released that John Travolta and Timothy Hutton were both considered for the role, solid actors however not suitable in my opinion. Val Kilmer was definitely involved in his role as far as the script dictated but at certain instances it was almost like satire, and Meg Ryan was entirely misscast as Pamela Courson.

reply

We'll never know how good Jason would have been. We do know that Val Kilmer was near perfect.

reply

Jason Patric is too self-aware as an actor and he broods WAY TOO MUCH to really come across as mysterious yet vulnerable. Jim Morrison was a shy person in real life and an uninhibited nihilist when channeling his poetry through music. Jason Patric comes across as stoic and pensive, kinda like Kit Harrington as Jon Snuh! LOL

reply

So true , however the physical resemblance ( at least back then) is uncanny in my opinion, given the opportunity he may have presented an interesting perspective.

reply

Dude, it might be the one and only role that Kilmer totally nailed. It's his only role that I can think of for which I'm more than willing to say: "wow, he deserved an Oscar!"

So, please, no don't take it away from Kilmer please!

reply

I believe he was way better as Doc Holiday in Tombstone, he definitely deserved an Oscar for that role.
