*sigh* Where the hell do I go to find foreign films?

I've looked everywhere for this film (and many other asian films, also).
My local library system, new movie stores, old movie stores, movie rental stores.
The only place left to look is online, but for those high prices, I'm not sure if I want to risk buying a film I haven't seen.

There's some kind of dumb-ass plot to restrict sales of foriegn films, I'm sure.
Although, I'm sure it's worse in the USA than here in Canada.

Don't be too sure. I live in the US and I just reserved it on my local library's website. I guess it's just Canada.

You could always get a copy on eBay, or resort to downloading via torrents.

Netflix. You might want to do a little research when choosing the films, however, since Netflix sometimes carries different versions of the same film (some better than others). Unfortuantely, this doesn't seem to be the case with this particular film--we're stuck with the Razor edition.

I also love foreign films and use my netflix account to obtain them. I watch alot of films from China and Australia and have never had a problem finding them there. You can also buy films from Netflix, though I never have. Good luck!

In all reality, online stores are often significantly cheaper than brick and mortar stores (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.)

And I second the above recommendation for YesAsia, a safe and surprisingly cheap site with many wonderful and hard to find films.

"Or perhaps it's not overrated"

Go to Barnes & Noble or Amazon to buy. I use the library...they are free. This film is coming out in July on DVD. A treat for all of us.

I first found this film at my local library, but when they switched to DVD they threw out all the old VHS! You can find it on PirateBay to download if it is that impossible to find for you.

Go back to the library system. I live in Montgomery County MD, and most of the libraries had limited foreign films on DVD. I happened to go to the next county north (I figured if I was going to drive 25 miles to eat at Cracker Barrel, I should do something meaningful with my time). Sure enough – one of the Frederick County libraries had hundreds of foreign films on DVDs, as well as hundreds more with the old 60s and 70s TV shows! That's where I found "Raise the Red Lantern." I felt like a kid in a candy store.

Keep searching!

I get a lot of foreign films from netflix. You can get one at a time for $6.99 a month. Plus you can download a lot of their films to your PC or tv set instantly if you have broadband.
