It's such a funny joke in that movie too. They make it sound like his dad is even younger than him.

He did a good job, watch the way he is when Trey is older, the way he stands, talks and his glasses while being mellow compared to his younger age where he has a bit more energy. He does a very good of being subtle in the age jump.
