As good as the original?
Gotta say No.
In fact, more of a drop than one would have hoped for given that sequels almost never match the mold (still liked it, but the journey was very hard to live up to).

Not as entertaining as the original, but it does have some moments that are funny, and some creative set designs.
I've got an ignore list longer than a Chinese phone book.
Style was so different, whole thing was a totally different tone from the first. What the hell was with all the "Station" stuff? Lacked the originals charm Imho. Best bit is Teds dad playing classical air guitar. And William Sadler of course.
I slightly prefer the original, but I think this has a better ending.

From a technical standpoint, Bogus Journey is undoubtedly a better film. But which one do I prefer? Well, the original is a slightly funnier and more entertaining movie overall. Still, I have to say that I like both of them equally for different reasons.
What do you think the teacher's gonna look like this year?
I agree. This wasn't as much fun as the original. It lacked 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure's' loose energy, mainly because it was over-plotted in relation to the original's perfectly simple and joyfully absurd premise (go back in time and pick up as many famous historical figures as possible in order to pass a high school history assessment). This one felt rather sour and occasionally mean-spirited with the fake Bill and Teds, the real ones' descent to hell and the nightmarish scene with the Easter Bunny and grandma chasing them. There was nothing nasty like that in the first film which was just knowingly mindless (if that's not too much of an oxymoron) light-hearted fun. Even the music felt heavier in this one.
shareThe first one's amusing but Bogus is a masterpiece comedy adventure. The script is packed with quotable dialogue delivered perfectly by the wildly insane cast of characters. William Sadler's Reaper is an icon, Station is hilariously bizarre, Reeves and Winter kill it as the good and evil Bill and Teds, their girlfriends and families round out the world. Great to see Rufus again, and Joss Ackland brings his classic villainy to the mad, wonderfully juvenile chaos.
The story rockets along, and they took the time to make heaven and hell epic spaces full of impressive imagery for B&T to dick around in. The effects are ambitious and surprisingly convincing. Most of all, it's just damn funny and bursting with charm. It's the little things - like Death's scream when he's shut in the van with Station, and immediately headbutts the window as they drive off - that make Bogus Journey a comedy classic that, I think, can be mentioned in the same breath as Back To The Future.
The 'God Gave Rock'n'Roll' ending sends you off on a massive high every time. Excellent Adventure is great fun, but can't compete with this gem.
Nah. The original is a timeless classic. It's untouchable. This movie was a good sequel - wasn't a cheap rehash of its predecessor and did something new and interesting. You could even argue it was more ambitious or intelligent than Excellent Adventure. However, it's not anywhere near as good or as enjoyable as the first.
Good things about Bogus Journey:
- William Sadler's performance as the Reaper - hilarious and lights up every scene.
- Bill & Ted playing Death at various board games - highlight of the movie.
- All the future, heaven and hell sequences - very well done. The imagery, lighting and set design were fantastic and very imaginative.
- Evil Bill & Ted was a cool concept. Reeves and Winter did very well portraying the evil versions of the heroes. People probably don't realize it wasn't easy to make them look so convincing as douchebags but they nailed it.
Lame things:
- The trolls aka station. I hate creepy looking monsters in films (like the ones in Neverending Story). They looked like mutated scrotums. Took the film down a couple of notches.
- Primus.
- Jim Martin (should've been Eddie Van Halen).
- Ending was a bit weak.
- Should've had more Rufus.
Overall I'd give this movie a 7/10. A worthy sequel to the legendary original.

I disagree, actually. I feel like the characters have a lot more depth in this movie than the original. Aside from Bill and Ted, we don't really learn much about the personalities of the historical figures. In Bogus Journey, we see a lot of Deaths personality, and we even have a lot of depth to a character who can only speak a single word.
I have to say, I also enjoy the soundtrack to the second movie much more than the first.
