As good as the original?

Gotta say No.

In fact, more of a drop than one would have hoped for given that sequels almost never match the mold (still liked it, but the journey was very hard to live up to).

no this one was only OK while the 1st one i got really into (after some time)

the one funny thing in this one is how they goof on DEATH but other than that it wasn't that funny .

the first one just felt so much more like a (2nd row) 80s classic
+ i liked the music from the 1st one way better - on the 2nd they gone more the route of the new bands that were all going in the grunge/indie direction (even though not quite there yet) and i like the more melodic / polished sounds of the 1st WAYY MORE

Agreed. As a 29 year old, I recently rewatched both of these classic movies from my childhood. The first one I gave a solid 7, definitely still holds a place in my heart. The second one unfortunately lacks all the charm and personality of the first, and the script is completely chaotic, even for a Bill and Ted movie.

Best part of this one is the Reaper, which probably isn't what they wanted with a supporting character.

Way off, WAAAY OFF! I totally prefer this to the original! By far! It's funnier, has a far better plot, it's epic in scope, set piece after set piece. I actually get a tiny bit bored watching the first one, AND, most importantly, this brilliant sequel gives us the answer how Bill and Ted manage to take over, sort of, the world. The climax is excellent! I love this movie and it is better than the first because it does what any sequel should do, expand the scope, drama and story.

Can't say you are wrong cause the choice is to personal taste, but have to think the consensus came in with there being no Bill & Ted III.

I am scared, TERRIFIED, of Bill and Ted 3 being AWFUL, but I dare to dream.

Original writers on board, plus a far more movie world savvy Alex and Keanu? It could be excellent!

reply

It has great potential. I also dare to dream that their third adventure will be most excellent...and funny.

Watched Bogus again yesterday. That climax gives me chills when Bill and Ted bust out those opening chords to God Gave Rock And Roll To You!

Bogus Journey is Excellent!!!

God Gave Rock n Roll To You is great!

I got news for 'em. There's gonna be hell to pay. 'Cause I ain't Daddy's little boy no more.

I said this on my podcast when we discussed the first film, but I don't think Bill and Ted are playing God Gave Rock and Roll To you. I think their song is the Steve Vai number the movie uses as an intro to GGRaRtY.

That opening part is not part of the original version of the song. The guitar opening is done by Steve Vai.

You can hear the difference between the two songs when you play them back to back.

I completely agree. I much prefer the sequel almost across the board. The best aspect of the first movie was how they dealt with time travel.

But we should try to be fair. They had more time to script the second movie. The first was written over a period of 4 days.

No way. Not even close. This is a horrible movie.

I enjoyed it more, I think. Death was wonderful.

Sad story. You got a smoke?

When I watched it last time, I realized something that had never occurred to me before. Death never could have possibly beaten Bill and Ted. They have God on their side.

Similar to the first movie, where Rufus ensures his present by taking part in past events, in this movie God ensures the future by helping them along the way. Since these movies use a self consistent universe, that means that God wants Bill and Ted to be the band they will ultimately become.
