Where did you get it and for how much?
I have checked several websites and haven't been able to find a copy (legal copy anyways) for under $100.

shareSame here. I want to watch this, but not for over $100. It's not worth THAT much.
shareI just bought a mint copy on eBay for 89.00 including shipping. Worth EVERY penny!! If you have not seen this film, trust me, you MUST. If you have not seen it, believe me, there is NO way you can have an opinion.
shareUh, I CAN have an opinion as to what I spend nearly $100 on. And unless the movie physically comes to life and starts making out with me like in Videodrome, or something, then it's not worth that much.
shareWow. I just found a copy somewhere for $340. Who would actually spend that on a DVD, especially if you've never watched it?!

I just searched it here and I've found a copy for £17.95 from Amazon. I'll be able to find it cheaper somewhere else I'm sure.

It's called art.
It's like saying "who would pay $5,000,000 for a single image hung on a wall painted by some italian guy?"
The only reason most dvd's are 20 bucks or less is because they are mass-produced, copies if you will.
When a work of art or any commodity is rare, the price goes up.
I paid $50 (and would gladly have paid $300) on ebay for the criterion edition of John Woo's The Killer.
Overall, It's all about what it's worth to YOU to own it. Not the dollar amount. Because at the end of the day you won't give a *beep* about the green pieces of paper you traded in if the item or art you bought gives you good feelings above and beyond.
Yes
I agree. I also bought Thomas Ligotti's The Nightmare Factory for 80 dollars.
shareonly two type of people would do that:
1. idiots
2. investors.
painting art is actually a good investor as its price rises due to abundance of rich idiots in the world.

got it on youtube.com for free

you should be able to find it for rental at a mom & pop video store with a decent foreign section...every town has one. Forget the web searches & just let your fingers do the walking through your local Yellow Pages.

If you just want to see it, Netflix has it. Put it on your queue. I saw a tape of it several years ago; at the time, it was for sale on the director's web site for $35. Copies of both the DVD and the tape will probably pop up from time to time on Ebay and Craigslist.
netflix doesnt have it anymore. ive seen it.. its not worth $100. just go to you tube and watch it.. a lot of people have it mixed with music videos and stuff.
shareI have it for sale, dvd. martynwjackson@ gmail .com
shareJust download it off a torrent site, or limwire/kazzaa.

shareI really want to see this movie, but the movie's very high eBay price keeps me from seeing it. I don't get why such a movie commands a $200 price tag. And getting it from a torrent site is no way to support independant cinema...
shareGot them for $50 bucks, original box art, all dvd extras, the whole shebang. Shipping included, be there in 4-7 days. All brand new. [email protected].
shareNeither is buying it second hand.
shareget it for less than 50 on amazon.....
shareKind of an expensive price to pay just to see God disembowel himself.
shareOn ebay they're all like over $50
Hell, why doesnt someone just bootleg the sucker and sell it for like $15 like everyone does with El Topo?
ISCREAM22 HAS SPOKEN!!
Old thread but that is exactly how i recently got my copy. I googled "begotten cheap for sale" and someone was selling it for 12 bucks. He owned a copy and just burned it onto a cd and shipped it to me. He also sent me links to have the actual cover art and the manual inside which includes an interview with the director to print out. I got it from the right guy i suppose. It has the dvd menus and everything.
shareDid you get yours off of Ioffer.com? That's where I got my copy. I paid about the same price.
I also got Halloween666: the Producers Cut of Halloween6, it came with the Producers Cut, TV Version, Workprint Version, Uncut Version, Original Version, and a bunch of never before seen bonus features. For some reason the only copy you can buy is the Theatrical Version, so buying it bootleg was pretty sweet, especially with all of those extras thrown in!
if you wanna waste more than an hour of your life, watch this "movie".
Pretentious.
Fails in the pretention of being a piece of art.
Only a non-sense movie.
I got my DVD from the original website (wwww.worldartists.com) for $24 plus shipping about a year ago, nice insert with 7-page E. E. Merhige interview by Scott MacDonald plus Merhige's own 56 individual Chapter names. I also found a VHS copy for the video store I run for about $10 at a going-out-of-business sale in my town.
If you're near Seattle let me know & I can hook you up.

I bought mine on www.knittelvideo.com for 29,99$ (total 44$ - for France -).
shareI think I'm one of the few people who ever actually walked into a store an bought it off the shelf. Which now that I see how much it costs, and all the hastle to obtain it, I'm glad I did.
I bought mine at Schulers books, for 25 dollars.
It's not the best movie, but something I'm proud to have in my collection out of the sheer oddity of it.
Try btjunkie.com
Download it for free.
I don't like downloading movies but......until it comes out on DVD again......I don't have much of a choice.
I bought my "original used" copy from Amazon.com for $55, but once it arrived, it turned out to be a bootleg, grrr! :(
BUT; yesterday i won the original mint DVD with booklet and all at an eBay auction for only $89.94!
Who wants to touch me? :)
Since i have 2 now, i will keep the way-too-expensive bootleg for watching, while keeping the original shrinkwrapped and secured in my safe
Hey, don't knock the $55.00. You got a pristene, unscratched DVDR, and you don't know how much the seller had in it. Plus I, oops, the seller, had costs, too. Did you want to watch it, or hang it on the wall? I thought it was a good deal, certainly the cheapest.

I'm not complaining at all, chipspikes. The quality is superb definitely.
All i said was that when i bought it from you on Amazon, it didn't say anywhere in the description that it was a bootleg (just like your other buyers commented). All it said in the description was that it was a new DVD.
Just mention in the description that this not an original DVD, just so that future buyers can decide for themselves whether they want to pay $55 for a copy or not
i for one try not to support dvd-r sellers, unless the films out of print and thus to expensive for me to purchase, or two the film was never released. with that said, i just got a dvd-r copy for 5 bucks. now that i know how the film is, i going to go shopping.

I managed to buy a copy off eBay for the astronomical sum of $60. I burned the DVD into my hard drive, and I made DV-R copies of it and gave them out to my friends for free. I think I am going to re-sell this DVD on eBay to the next gullible person willing to buy it. I recommend every one to do this.
