Chuckie in "Home Movies"

It is weird how well you can remember a scene years after you last saw the episode.
Take for example Chuckie's "home movie".
Firstly, there's the fact that he draws both himself and his dad with rain clouds over their heads.
Because yikes, that tells you so much in such a short sequence.
Chuckie already knows that he's depressed and that his father is depressed too.
Which is really sad even if the episode moves on from it very quickly.
But it was really interesting to see a cartoon acknowledge how depression can run in a family.
And I remembered the things which scared Chuckie on the way to Tommy as well.
A dog, the birds up a tree, and even a frog sometimes!
But then, they're at Tommy's house and Tommy is pretty much drawn as if he was Superman!
Wow, that was really hilarious!
I have just seen the episode for the first time in forever, and it was great stuff.

Yes, that's a great episode. Also, remember that Chuckie's mom died and apparently it's a recurring theme surrounding those two characters. I'll need to watch the series again to confirm but I thing the life of a widower is something they addressed in the series, although subtly.

Yeah, it is true that the fact that Chuckie's mum died must be a big reason for why they were the way they were.
But I guess that they would have been a bit nervous and anxious anyway, but probably much less so.
However, the episode that shows what life would have been if Chuckie hadn't been born hints at something dark:
Chaz would have gone insane after his wife's death if he hadn't had Chuckie. 😮
