This show went really down hill...
when Jonathan Taylor Thomas left. Anybody else agree?
To me, it went downhill when they turned Jill into a shrew with Tim the cowering husband.
shareI didn't like it as well when the boys were older, and yeh Randy and Mark got pretty obnoxious. I rarely watch S-8; IMO the show hung around one year too long.
I only have one person on ignore, but I've had to ignore him 625 different times.
It hit Tim Allen really hard when JTT decided to go pursue his movie career more. Tim Allen HATED change, and him losing one of the main cast members, who was also apart of the family hit hard.
JTT leaving surely hurt the show. I was a teen-bopper at the time and loved JTT. One of the reasons I watched with my dad was because of him. So when he left the show, I kind of lost interest at that age.
So when you lose a key character then the show will go downhill. I wished they would have made it to the 10 years.
I dont understand these actors who get "so big" that they just leave the show that really made them.
JTT being one, and then his career really went no where.
Katherine Heigl, left Greys Anatomy sure she made a few romantic comedies, but she became a witch and no one wanted to work with her.
Topher Grace, left That 70s Show and the biggest movie was Spider Man
Shelly Long left Cheers and movie career never really took off.
Remember the evil twins? Any time a series has to get new kids it's obvious the show has run it's course.
shareTim wasn't as upset by JTT leaving the show as he was because he lied to him. His excuse for leaving was that he was going to school and needed to concentrate on his education, then a few months later appearing in some made for TV movie. Tim felt betrayed. Whatever bad blood there might have been previously boiled over.
shareMaking some made for TV movies should have been okay. It isn't the same as a weekly TV show with a serious commitment. He could have made those in-between classes. Plus, you gotta make money!
shareI was sort of glad JTT left. But they put those horrid twins in instead.
shareI wonder if the Jonathan Taylor Thomas would have stayed if he had known Season 8 was going to be the last? When Season 7 was in production, it wasn't yet known that the show would end after Season 8, they wanted to go to at least a Season 9 (Disney wanted to attach it to the cast's contracts), but in the end, Tim and Patricia said no.
I agree, the show went down hill starting in Season 7 and really went downhill when JTT left. Not that they were bad, but those seasons were not as good as Seasons 1-4. Seasons 5-6 were good too, but not as good as 1-4. Seasons 7-8 were so-so.
