were you a fan of jill?

I didn't care for her either, she was always smug, bitchy, feminist, never admitted when she was wrong, thought she was better than Tim even though he was a good father and husband and supported the family. Nearly every sitcom wife since the early 90s and even earlier has been just like her, for example, the wives from The Cosby Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Malcolm in the Middle, Modern Family, that's why I hardly watch any comedies later than the early 90s.

I could understand her being mad at Tim sometimes as he was frequently inconsiderate and constantly screwed up the house, having said that Jill is a self-righteous high and mighty hypocrite (Tim can't yell at Mark for robbing his best friend yet she can jump down Brad's throat for not stopping his girlfriend from making a sandwich for him) and I can say that she got on my nerves more because Tim's antics were meant to be comic relief while her agenda was meant to be taken seriously.

Nope she was typical of housewives on TV back then, very "Know it all" yet they don't work are doing some holier than thou study and being supported by the husbands they constantly ridicule and speak down to.

She does seem to be kind of an awful person to Tim. I am just watching this show again for the first time in over 20 years. A perfect example of the issue I take with her character is from season 1. Compare Tim's friend vs Jill's friend in back to back episodes:

Tim's Friend Stu - Episode 14 "For Whom the Belch Tolls"
Jill's Friend Karen - Episode 15 "Forever Jung"

Sure Stu is annoying and childish and is disrupting Jill's planned family night of forcing her 3 boys and husband to watch something they hate. She berates Tim and hates Stu and finally guilts Tim to not really want to see his friend anymore. Sure part of it was Tim wanted the family life more than the old life, but that was his decision to make. Stu likes Jill and is very complementary to her and her family and life and treats her very friendly and respectfully. and yet Jill can't stand him and sticks her nose up at Tim over their friendship.

Compare this with Karen (feminist). She is legitimately nasty to Tim, mocks him in front of his family, pits him and Jill against each other for her own amusement, ridicules Tim's entire view of masculinity, and Jill joins in with her in the mocking and belittling. She is an extremely rude person to Tim and Jill takes no issue with it and doesn't like that Tim does not want her around. In fact Stu is never seen again but Karen is a recurring character.

YES...SHE WAS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER ON THE SHOW.

She was a standard housewife type for the period. Not many TV wives were nice or liked their husbands in the 90’s.
